Trim Removal. How to? [SOLVED]

Do you know if there are any holes I could run power line and coax through without having to drill?

There's a grommit on the passenger side firewall right next to the A/C drain. I used that to run wires for my POP n lock. Comes out right behind the glove box

 

Damn. Wish I had seen that while I had the seat out. I looked all over the place for one. Not sure if my coax would have reached that far though. Maybe when I mount a CB I'll do that

 

Sorry, haven’t been on in a while. As others have mentioned, it’s a deeper dive to get to the switches below.

 

Just so you guys know what it looks like to have red trim. Gotta do the trim below the deck still but I like it. Let me know what you guys think. Yay or nay?

I'm hoping to tackle this project Friday. Can you please elaborate more regarding the HVAC panel removal? I do not have the premium tech package, how do the dials come off? Do I just pull them straight off? The clips you mentioned, are they just like the clips that hold the other dash trim on?

If I remember right you don't need to take the dials off. Once you get the panel off the center stack, you will have to disassemble the back where the chipset is. Continue disassembly until you can reach the clips that hold the trim into place. They are unlike other clips on the dash, you will need a precision flat head screwdriver to unclip them from the back.

It looks way harder that in is. I did the same thing when I installed a 5 slot switch to put factory Rav4 switches in the new slots. It's worth it in the end.

I'm not sure if you have to remove the front console box (the panel where the wireless charger is) to get to that switch panel or not but I'll PM you a little .pdf that gives step by step instructions how to disassemble the entire center console.

 

I wouldn't consider this a write up but merely a guide for those who want to replace the lower center console panel, here are some photos of what you'll need to do. First of all this PDF was extremely helpful and is almost a walkthrough of the process.

Disconnect the negative battery terminal, take your time, use the proper tools (I found sandwich bags helpful to keep the screws accounted for and organized), I am not responsible for damages to your vehicle.


Following the PDF here are the trim pieces which were removed. The PDF is located at the bottom of this post.


Starting on page 3 remove the instrument cluster panel from around the radio and behind the steering wheel.


Skip to pg 19 remove the scuff plate and cowl side trim.


Now you have access to the panel on pg 4. I did not remove the hood latch, i just let the panel sit on the floor.


Now we move on to the right side of the truck. Also listed on pg 4. Remove the glove compartment plate.


***What this PDF didn't mention was the removal of the passenger lower airbag. Remove the two bolts shown on this image and the 1 bolt on the left side of the panel in the 2nd image.


Now the glove compartment can be removed. pg 5 of the PDF covers this.


Pages 15-18 of the PDF will walk you through removal of the center console.
I did not take photos of this process.
I did not remove the E-brake either. I pulled up on the panel once everything was everything else was removed and turned the boot inside out. I had plenty of room to work.


Now you can unbolt the Head unit and pop off the climate control cluster.


Now and only now can the lower switch panel be removed. Pg 5 of the PDF shows this.


Here is the finish product installed and buttoned up.


With the exception to the aftermarket seat heater buttons, the others are designed to only fit in specific holes in that panel. That being said...i wanted them the way I have them so with a file, elbow grease and patience I was able to get the layout I wanted. The 12v plug will have to be disassembled from the old panel and added to the new panel.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some minor details, but if anyone has questions, I'll do my best to help.

 

I just used the slots the switches fit into. I might move the passenger seat heater switch next time I have the dash apart. I like the look of yours.
