What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I like the hi lift, but all of the areas of my truck I use it on trap it in some way too. Bit safer when you know it isn't gonna slingshot out at you. I had a little chuckle to myself at the off-road expo in Scottsdale last month. The folks in the proeagle area make the hilift out to be the worst most evil hatred filled invention since moldy sliced bread. Mean while they're pushing a $350 dollar Costco floor jack with some 4" wheels about like it decended from heaven to give them all boner pills and sandwiches.

Only necessary if you have Michelins.

Aside from smashing a valve stem on a rock, I've not had one single tire issue in all my miles of offroading.

 

Metal valve stem or rubber? I'm having rubber ones put on my new steelies, feel like I'm gonna break the little metal ones.

 

Rubber. The outside metal bit was smashed and was pressing on the valve.

I tried to "fix" the issue by unbending the smashed bit, but just made it worse.

Guessing one of those fancy sealing valve caps would have solved the issue.

 

Good tip! It's not super easy but you can put a new rubber stem in backwards with soapy water and then refill. Carrying a spare stem or two cost like $3

 

well you won't like other brands. BFGs have soft side walls..

Yeah i can't imagine MTRs in a d or E. Even my Cs are stiffer than most other Cs.

yeahhh...not the first time Frank's been held up by just a hi lift. I don't really care, never has bothered me working on the truck while up on one.

You obviously don't wheel hard enough And don't buy BFGs

 

Coming from E rated KM2’s, the D’s were a nice change. They squat just fine at about 4psi

 

mine squat good at 10 haha never had these down that low. Had my km2s down that low once though.

 

Ha! Damn low blow. He isn’t ever here to defend himself It also helped James out too. I like having a floor jack just because I know others have hi lifts.

 

Not sure if it makes much difference in dry powder, but in the wet snow we get (lovingly referred to as Cascade concrete), low pressures make a huge difference. The snowtrek.org guys are from out here, they say they start at 5 psi and go down from there haha.

That’s a great way to do it, especially if you’re sticking with your current tire size.

 

Damm lowest ive aired down to was 12.

My buddy rocks the floor jack too, but we havent had to use it or my highlift...yet.

 

Mine was 8psi and it was to get out of some really deep, soft sand that I was stuck in at 15psi. Worked like a charm, too.

The worst is when you hit pavement for short stretches with ~15psi in the tires...some of our local trails connect to one another via entrances that are a few miles apart down the highway. Feels like you're steering a boat.

 

Yeah havent gotten burried in sand yet, im sure it will happen eventually, was surprised it didnt happen in superstition this past winter.

 

Fckn 3.4 fuel filter.....makes me feel like I should not be working on cars. How is something so simple so damn hard.

 

Some pics of the chem burns from the gas. I have taken off and put back of the filter probably 20 times for hours and the inlet still leaks

 

I struggled so much with that damn filter until I used one of these. Not only is it incomparably easier now, but I don't have to take the tire off anymore to get in there enough.
