I think their term for it would be “go fuddle-duddle yourself”.

LEGAL ACTION CANNOT BE TAKEN FOR A BAD REVIEW!

What's the point if someone never gets bad reviews? It's then a lie! No judge will stand for it. I would have left it to be honest and said you can try. Biggest bluff ever lol not to mention lawyer (if real) is a clown because he wont take the case, it stands no chance, this is just a threat. I would have said are you sure you want to threaten me like that?

Now with that said, you can do a background check to see if the attorney is real, or made up. Is there a practice license #?

Aside from all that, if they are acting mob-like like this, and they probably have your address from the paperwork (maybe?) then I would just shrug it off and move on, I also wouldn't worry about it.

I’m a fellow Canadian. My wife is a legal assistant. In short, unless you made up shit about what happened, you’re safe. I would make sure you have proof of what occurred such as receipts that link your story to proof of work on your vehicle. If you’re a real dick and related to a lawyer, reply to the letter with a cease and desist citing that you have hard evidence behind to support your claims and will involve the Police/RCMP if threatened again. Usually that not only stops additional legal action, but a decent firm will release that shop as a client least they do something stupid that would drag down the firms image.

Letters from a lawyer are just paper. The shop is counting on you dropping your review and not holding your ground. Keep in mind if they took further legal action they would be held responsible for your legal costs if they lost, if your lawyer is even remotely competent. Unless they have you dead to rights on something you bold face lied about in your story, the risk for the shop in suing you is too high to for them to pursue further legal action.

Consumer protection laws are a bit behind in Canada but our common sense legal system makes up for it.

I would like to add there was recently a case won in Vancouver where i live a lady wrote horrid reviews online and said the wedding photographer ruined her wedding.
The photographer won a court settlement of 150k

That was a pretty extreme case. I remember it in the paper and the woman was out to destroy the career of the photographer. You can’t compare what she did with the bad reviews the average person gives.

A review is an opinion. You can't be sued because they don't like your opinion. Complete fake out.

    Sued over a review?

Is it worth the potential hassle of hiring a costly defense lawyer, going to court, and possibly losing, all over a review?

Just because someone reimburses you are refunds the cost might make it right from a financial perspective but it doesn't change the fact they did a shit job and their review is a reflection of that work.

That's like saying, hey this shop gets 5 stars because they will fuck up the job but don't worry they won't charge you...

    Seriously....
