Are there any common simple brake upgrades you guys do to get more bite? I don't really like the brake feel so far, too spongy for my taste. Anyone tried going to ceramic pads up front or something like that?

Glad you asked, I'm looking into this right now. I noticed that there are options from EBC, PowerStop, etc, but dont know too much about the differences. I read a build page where someone is using TRD High Performance pads on their 3rd gen, but I cant see to source them anywhere online. I'll keep you posted.

As a 2nd gen owner. I am now on my 4th brake setup. Tried it all. Finally bought a big brake kit from stop tech. It was the solution i needed. Just spend the money right the first time and get the 3piston big brakes.

i wish I could find Brembo blank rotors and brembo pads that fit the Tacoma. Does anyone know if there is a P/N for that?

I had great success with the stoptech rotors and dba rotors. I like the abcana pads. I tried out the green stuff pads and the squeaked like a bitch. The real problem is the calipers are too inefficient when you add armor winch supercharger etc. the new 6 piston stop techs make my heavy ass truck stop like a Porsche. It’s pretty impressive.

Ran Hawk pads in regular heavy duty spec on my first gen along with stainless lines front and rear and was a definite improvement on feel. On the fence of what to do on my 17 when the time comes. big differece in weight compared to my 02

tell me about it... it seems like there isnt much aftermarket support other than PowerStop Kits, OEM, and the crap they sell at auto parts stores. Brembo doesnt offer anything for us, EBC catalogs arent updated, etc... smh

So glad you chimed in. TireRack doesnt list brake pads for my MY 2016 Tacoma, but does for a MY 2017. Game changer. I assume they are the same. :)

In the absence of a Ferodo pad that fits, Hawk is generally a pretty good choice.

On a truck like this, rotors are rotors, unless you get a defective one they're all gonna be equivalent.

I heard reaplacing/switching the lines to stainless also helps since the lines won’t expand and give more pressure. When I get around to a lift I may just go ahead and replace my lines since I will probably need a little extension anyway..
BTW I can’t stand anti-lock brakes and prefer the feel/control of disk brakes.Since everything is ran by a computer, the new generation of drivers are forced to accept the technology, good and bad!

changing to SS lines did indeed help my brake feel in an obvious way, more firm and positive, but i'm not gonna say it helped anything other than feel. no real change to stopping ability. but the feel is mighty nice. got mine from Marie @ Headstrong... she ordered standard size ones since i don't run a lift (they normally just stock the extended ones).

Its time for pads on the front. I looked up EBC and it appears there is nothing. Also nothing from TRD, nothing from Hawk. What is the next performance pad upgrade for the 2016 on up?

Does anyone have any tips? Thank you.

I switched to EBC drilled and slotted rotors with green pads a year ago and haven't had any vibrations since. The stock rotors are garbage

i think tirerack has a good selection of brakes, if you have a 3rd gen, be sure to select 2017 year as they dont have much listed under 2016. also, I picked up some powerstop z36s from 4wp and they are solid so far.

Thanks. Ill ask a stupid question, is there a difference between 2016 and 2017? Evidently Hawk has pads for 2016, but nothing listed for 17. I will check out Tirerack.
