I always thought wheel bearings made a grinding sound when going bad. Easy to check though, see if you have any up/down play or clunking in the wheel when it's off the ground (could also mean a bad LBJ). Spin the wheel when it's off the ground and it should spin freely and quietly if the bearings are good.

I'll do that. I just found it weird it only happens when you're turning, and it seems to only come from the driver's side. It's relatively loud, I can hear it in the cab with the window up.

Mine has devloped a squeek the past few weeks as well, although I think my is bushing/shock related. My wheel bearings have started to howl as well, they spin ok and have no play, but man do they howl from 35-45mph.

I'm confident I wouldn't be able to hear a failing wheel bearing above 40mph with the KM2s

    ALL OF THEM!...Then some more.
just replace them. Mine howled for 6 months then nuked.

I don't think so. You'd hear it and KM2s aren't that loud really.

a squeak makes me think of a bushing rather than a bearing or joint. If it was a clunk or pop while turning that'd be a whole different set of possibilities

I am dropping it off next thursday for some new ones, my new 30mi highway commute has me terrified of them nuking at 75mph

I've broke at least 3 of them off against rocks.

Usually it's super easy to drill what's left of the old one out, and just screw a new one in.

Why are they so noisy all of a sudden? You must have changed the rolling direction. :stirthepot:

Hell, my new STT Pros are noisier that the old KM2s were.

Mounted some Rotopax up in the bed of my truck! Super happy with the end result. I just got their mounting plate for the 2nd and 3rd gens, and drilled a hole into the bed side for it.

Is it okay to bend back my pinch weld where my slider mounts are touching it? After ripping apart the interior to no avail, I have determined my annoying creaking noise to be coming from my sliders where they touch the pinch weld. A test of violently shaking the truck while standing on them semi confirmed my theory.

I wasn't alive when tires were made out of whale fat and horse hair so I don't know if that was an issue back in the day. But during the past 60 years or so it has been advised to change direction to even out wear. The bent rim makes the noise kinda soothing haha, that'll all stop when my new rims com in on monday.
