Skip the color match. I bought a pair of the plain black ones and swapped them. Looks much better.

Painting chrome is never a good idea...chips, peel, etc...please don't plasti-dip it either...it will look really tacky. Saw it in person yesterday for the first time, you could REALLY tell. Not to mention the life time of touch up you'll need to do.

150 or so for the pair. I ordered them from one of the toyota dealerships online.

I paid extra upfront to get the color match... just couldn't do the chrome.

I painted mine. I sanded through the first chrome layer then used an etching primer, then color matched spray paint followed by clear. I’m not the best painter there are a couple of flaws if you look close but it’s been over a year and they still look great. No chipping or peeling.

Ahh yes, if you sand it down, yes, should be ok, I assumed they are steel chromed bumpers...which means they don’t flex like the polymer black unpainted ones. Paint sticks better to plastic than metal. However, if you gave it to a paint shop should be ok either way. It’s just that if someone bumps or kisses your bumper, it will chip easier than say the plastic bumpers that will allow some flex without chipping the paint...

They are plastic with a really thick super hard layer of chrome. Sanding is very time consuming on these. I was planning to go all the way to plastic but gave up and decided to use the etching primer. The caps are very rigid and don’t flex much. Mine have held up super well. I drive on dirt roads fairly often as well. I went the cheap route. If someone hits me or if the paint has issues down the road I will buy a steel bumper. So far so good though and you would never know it was stock unless you look super close (I burned through the clear in a very small area when buffing and have a small run in one area).

Super dirty but this is after two summers and a winter in snow, dirt roads, road trips, etc.

Never painted just replaced the bumper with a black steel aftermarket bumper. Get rid of the plastic, you’ll never look back.
