If you find out who the driver was the insurance company probably wont do anything. I had something similar happen and they said there wasnt enough money involved for them to do anything. I had a lawyer friend send a letter to this guys insurance and they paid me back what I was out plus a little.

It's bureaucracy. Government bureaucracy. A driver is legally supposed to adhere to the laws of the state they are in, but a lot of that gets brushed under the rug simply to be good neighbors.

Not to hijack, but several years ago a fire department in Southern Kansas bought a new fire engine. It was built in Michigan and the guys flew up there and started driving it home. Well, in Kansas fire engines don't need to be tagged. So they headed home with nothing... got pulled over in Iowa and the truck was impounded because it was not properly tagged for it's weight. State senators got involved before the department got their truck back.

Another anecdote, my dad was an OTR truck driver for many years when he wasn't farming. He swears the only place he ever got screwed with by the cops was Kansas because he had Kansas tags. It's easier to cite him than someone from out of state.

Don't oversized loads have to have permits to operate on any given road with an approved route/time for that permit? If that's the case I would think it would be easy to track down based just off of the permit alone, might want to try and reach out to whatever department issues those permits in GA and see if they can help you.

It depends in Mississippi you can buy a yearly pass that you can use for small oversized loads. There is a limit to weight, height, and width for the permit. If it’s really oversized you still have to call and get an approved route.

That dozer wouldn’t need to call and get an approved route here

The question then, would be who hit who? Who was passing who, or did it happen head on?

Don't forget though that the big rig driver also failed to remain at the scene of an accident. That plays in OP's favor if the driver is found

True. I drive a tow truck and have been out to many accident scenes were the drivers are persistent in waiting for the police to show up for an accident report. Unless it's REALLY SLOW out, blocking traffic, minor involved, or an injury, there not going to show up as long as there are other priorities involved.

Maybe, but then if that's the case that kind of counters the argument of "he actually hit me". You can't really use both

OP have you gotten a few quotes to fix the truck? Appears you need a new mirror and damage was done to the driver door and bed. That would tell me they need to blend paint on the doors, bed, and possibly tailgate. That is likely a repair job of $3-4k at a decent body shop, plus the 1k diminished value check.

If I'm your insurance carrier, I am looking at what it costs me to go after a tag # for the truck that hit you, and the fees associated with getting them to pay up. an insurance company may not feel the need to do so for only a few thousand dollars cost to them, aka up to you to find the company and prove it is you want your deductible back.

He knew. He stopped, I pulled over cut off my ring mirror then turned back around to pull in behind him and he drove off.

Not passing blame, but did he have an escort truck or at least a wide load banner on the front of his truck? My understanding is, when something has a wide load banner, other traffic has to yield, slow down or even pull to the shoulder and stop to let them through. If there was no shoulder for you to pull over on, they should have picked a different route or blocked off on coming traffic till there was enough room.

No banner on the front and I had nothing but a drop on my right. We were only doing maybe 15 mph. He just kept coming and I had nowhere to go.

In that case he should have had an escort to stop traffic while they go through tight spots.
