Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I’m in California and the muffler shops I asked said they wouldn’t touch the Cats, but they said I could DIY it with the URD pipe set, and I’d have to swap it back whenever I smog it.

OT just a bit- what’d you do to void the suspension warranty?

Cali can be very picky about things from what I know. I still think my truck would pass inspection in cali since all factory pcs for emissions and sound are intact. I lived in Cali for a while when I was growing up but dont plan on ever moving back so I'll never actually know.

I guess I will wait until the warranty is done, in the meantime I am putting on armor to cover it since I already hit and just scratched the pipe slightly on a rock - the guy I spoke to that suggested I DIY the URD pipe reroute on it said if I hit that OEM pipe hard enough, it can mess up the manifold and that could cost thousands to fix.

Edit: found new info about this online, started a new thread for others about “Mods vs Manufacturers Warranties”.

I have the mark 2 URD y-pipe sitting in my garage. From what i can see the second set of cats is removed to instal, leaving the front cats still. But the sensor is in front of the second set of cats, so i belive the 2nd set of cats only clean the exhaust more. Removing the second set of cats wouldn’t effect the system as far as DEQ goes. But i could be wrong, not a mechanic.

That looks like a very clean mod, but I live in So CA. After surviving through the smog caused by 70’s era vehicles and the old Kaiser Steel Mill as a kid growing up in So Cal, I couldn’t consciously do something like removing a Cat from my truck. You guys in more open states are lucky to have the air you have! :)

True i get some stories from the parents who spent 30 years in soCal growing up. Lungs would burn after a day of play due to the smog they would say. Oregon isnt to far behind of the smog rules though and there just as progressive here as they are in Cali but we get by. In fact we get a lot of Calis moving here.

Yup, eastern desert was my favorite there, wow, what beauty!

I really do want to move that pipe though, I hit it off-roading with my stock suspension and KO2’s, but now I’m about 1.5 inches taller with 5100’s and an AAL, it still looks too low due to that pipe!

It’s the lowest point on the truck. Really a bad design, idk what they were thinking with that. Just bound to get hit, bent and maybe pulled off/out. I would just do the URD re-route. I’m waiting for some time and better weather, Oregon is cold and wet right now.

The exhaust shop that did my reroute claimed what you said. The second cat is just additional emmisions removal. Not necessary in Texas to pass emissions. I still left them in since I doubt I would have seen any noticeable gain.

For some reason I thought you got it Mandrel bent or welded differntly.

Will it make much of a difference wit hthe old school bends instead of clean mandel bends?

Ohhh, it says “More Horsepower!”, can’t go wrong with that!:bananadance:

Looks like it’ll be fine. I once clamped on part of a coffee can, worked just great too!

How much did the reroute cost you, it looks good.

What diameter pipe are you all using? And anyone have dimensions for the runs of pipe for a material estimate?

    Cheers

Is there an official write up somewhere of exactly how to do this? All I see is a couple pics here. Do I just go into my muffler shop and say "please do an exhaust reroute" and show them the picture? What am I missing lol

Yep, that's the gist of it! The only goal is to get the exhaust above the crossmember (red line) so it's not the lowest hanging thing.
