That's how I've always run my pressure on Tacomas. Sometimes the guys at the tire shop are confused when I tell them to air them up that way when rotating them. It makes way more sense, though, on these little trucks since the bed hardly weighs anything.

Also, if you can hold out until end of Feb/beginning of March, DiscountTireDirect usually runs a $100 off $400 promo through their eBay store. Free shipping and no tax. I've bought 3 sets of tires with that promo and saved a fair bit of money.

I settled on the ST Maxx in 265/75/16 and had them installed yesterday. They are a much harder firmer ride on pavement than my old AT3's and seem to handle the logging roads just fine, tho I didn’t have much time to drive on them, but man these things pick up rocks twice the size that my AT3's did when they were new. Must have had 10 rocks per tire when I got back to the pavement. Most of them self cleaned.

First photo below are two photos, both taken when the AT3's were new and yesterday right after having the ST Maxx’s installed. ST Maxx on the left, AT3 on the right. You can see how much bigger the ST Maxx at 265/75 vs the AT3 265/70.

Looks good OP. They shine in their toughness. Don't be afraid to air em down and beat the piss out of them on some rocky 4WD trails.

I love having confidence in my tires, especially coming from a tire that I DIDN'T have confidence in.

They put 40 psi in all 4 tires. Whether that’s too much or not, I’ll figure that out eventually. It’s probably too much. I’ve seen 34 front 32 back mentioned in the forum more than once. Might try the chalk test, tho I’ve heard it’s best done on concrete, we have no concrete at all around here, other than sidewalks.

They are great tires, I too came from the AT3, in C load. There was a slight increase in the amount of firmness to the ST MAXX. You'll get that with any E rated tire, especially if you had a p rated tire before.

My 255/80/17 came installed at 50 which seemed really high. I dropped them to 40 but gonna do a chalk test.

How do you like your ARE overland cap? There are so many mixed reviews on all caps but I am looking at this one, LEER 100XQ or Snugtop rebel. I have a white DCSB coming and I’d like to run the exact wheel and tire setup as well!

I have an ARE CX top. I am very happy with it, I have 1 windoor, a Yakima roof rack, and a rear slider. I bought it when we moved from Boulder, CO to Pittsburgh PA. Now I primarily use it to keep my mountain bike relatively secure at work. My other choice was the Snugtop Rebel but since we moved East of the Mississippi I went with ARE just incase I needed to file a warranty claim.

I do like the CX HD because of the reinforced roof. I just moved to Michigan from California and the closest dealer for Snugtop is 4 hrs away so I get your reasoning. Can I ask you how much you paid for it?

I love the cap. Is it perfect, no, just little detail items like gap in weatherstripping at rear window lets in a lot of dust but i'm working on that myself. I like being able to have gear in the back, secure and out of sight and weather. I chose the ARE overland because I run a CVT Tent on top and it is supposed to be stronger due to more fiberglass/smaller windows and I like how the black accent keeps the orginal lines of the truck better when looking at it from the side. Love the windoor and having slider on other side. Interior has extra lighting and is carpeted. I slept in the back in Utah a couple of weeks ago instead of tent cause of high winds and it worked great. I would recommend the front window slider and drop down. Makes cleaning the rear window much easier. Still loving the wheel/tire combo too.

Thank you sir! This is my 3rd truck but 1st with the topper. I have to admit, it is nice for keeping stuff in the back out of the elements. I slept in it last month in Utah when it was super windy and worked fine for that night. Also recommend the skinny tires.

I am running 255/80/17 in this tire. No experience with other "skinny" sizes. Previously I ran a light weight All Terrain in 265/75/16 on my 2011 for years that worked well. I wanted a little more height and tread this time without too much of a power/mpg loss.
