12s are awesome during the day. At night though, MAN do they ever suck.

The pay's fantastic (total of 25% differential), but working weekend nights I've given up ALL of my family/friends time for it.

Yep. I get home not long after she gets up, so we get that. On my days off we'll try to go out for dinner or something, but she's been working late so I only really get a couple of hours with her.

I'm trying like hell to get moved to days, but the process is really slow. We also find it hard to get good folks that want to work nights. It's a really easy gig, but nobody wants the hours.

Same here. I’d love to go to days. Hopefully one day I will be able too.

I worked for another company doing 5a-5p for a long time. Surprisingly, it really wasn't bad.

I had about a 50 mile (one-way) commute, but being on the road so early I'd miss ALL of the AM traffic - I could get there in less than an hour pretty regularly.

The biggest bummer on that one though was winter weather. I'd be on the road before the plows were out, and whenever there was heavy blowing snow it'd get pretty dicey.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

    Non-exempt, 8s 11:00pm-7:00 or 7:30am.

Same here. And it’ll get worse with unemployment getting close to 4%. That’s labor shortage area. The good side I’ve had really good raises the last two years:thumbsup:

Been there. Missing all the traffic even the plows!:notsure:

Good luck finding a replacement when you finally get first shift.:annoyed:
We finally got approval for a third position on third shift:thumbsup: It’ll be awhile before anyone is hired and ready to go.

This is where I'm lucky now, actually.

Demand is down for our parts, so we're in a bit of a production slowdown right now. They don't want to lay anyone off because folks are so hard to replace, so lots of folks are getting redeployed internally.

It's semiconductor manufacturing, and good help is damned hard to find.

Still got an hour to kill - so some random thoughts:
    • The tent I bought is still shown at the bottom of the thread, and MAN do I ever like it! It held up in 35mph winds out in the desert, 2 friends of mine actually had to strike their tents and sleep in their trucks that night. For the money, it can't be beat!
    • My stupid music tastes keep changing, even at over 50, and I've really been digging on this band "Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats". The genre of rock is oddly named ("stoner rock"?), but they have such an odd sound that I can't get over it. "Death's Door", "Melody Lane", and "Withered Hand of Evil" are some of their better numbers.

Ever sleep two guys to a 2-man tent?

I did it ONCE, it was WAY closer than either one of us expected.

I used to sleep with my wife in a two man:D:thumbsup: Now if we use a tent it’s a six man cabin so we can fit the blow up mattress. Don’t really like the ground anymore:frusty:

Yes, I've discovered that as the Earth has aged that the ground is MUCH harder than it was even 30 years ago.

I got a cheapy Wally-World single sized inflatable mattress, it turned out to be a lot nicer than I expected.

I'm finding it very difficult to get chores done because like 3rds, I stay up after work and sleep late. So everything I need to get done outside fills my entire weekend.
