All I Want Is An Extra 30-40 HP!

I bought my Tacoma with eyes wide open. I knew it wasn’t built for speed and that the 6speed tranny had a couple quirks .
So I got the TRD OR for the rear lock and crawl feature knowing I would use it. Because the transmission was all that bothered me with the truck I put 4:88 gears in and locked front . The gears solved the shifting problems, something I don’t have waste time proving.
As for saving my money ... not to worry I’m flush for a few life’s .
It’s your money to spend as you want enjoy your mods as they are absolutely yours . Maybe someday you can post a pic of your truck in the 1/4 mile .

I don’t see myself as a regular member of the majority, but in this case I’d say I’m a proud member of the Tacoma majority (real world not TW) in that these trucks aren’t those kinds of trucks, and that’s how I like it. That’s how most people like it and rightly so, the Toyota pickup was never a muscle truck. If you want beast, buy a Tacoma and gut it. New engine and management. Turn it into a rad class 7. Turn it into a drag car. Turn it into a goofy ass rock crawler. Put a couch in it and call it an OVERLAND RIG. Turn it into a sail boat. Take it off the road, make it a toy and build it into what niche auto sport suits your fancy. But in my opinion if you own a Tacoma and you need/want this power while still being street legal (inspections/smog) you made a mistake because you didn’t know Toyota trucks in the first place.

 

Keep in mind that he's said that everyone who's bought the tune will have the tune customized for their engine/vehicle modifications. He's developed a logging tool for this purpose, and it's included in the tune price.

So if you have a URD exhaust, cat deletes,modified airintake, polished TB, and other mods, he will tune your engine to utilize these mods.

Also this engine makes what? Ten HP more in the Camry for no good reason? Running the 91 Octane ovtune in combination with a few good mods should easily net 25-30+ more HP. It's really not hard to see.

I can't think of much else you can do to these small naturally aspirated engines for gains these days. So much of the powerband/distribution is determined by computer you're not gonna see much of any gains just by slapping on components.

Short of forced air induction, which has already been mentioned as out of OPs budget(ignoring the fact it doesntd exist yet.

@OP if you can find someone nearby you who has the OVTune, you can get them to license you a copy and install it for half the price if they're nice. And get a straight air intake tube off autoanything, don't bother with a cold air intake. Just getting rid of the resonator chamber, and the charcoal filter in the top box will do the same job.

The price is a BARGAIN compared to other tunes for other vehicles.

How is a Dyno not backing up the numbers?

I’ve driven like 8 or 9 different versions of the tune. Went back to stock between 1.04 and 1.03 and remembered how horrrivle the stock truck was.

If you don’t have the money for $800 to make your truck significantly better, don’t talk shit about it.


Also, I never said I got 30 hp. He’s getting 24 on a stock truck. I said I could get at least 30 once it’s custom tunes.

I can take my stock truck and get 300 hp on a dyno. It won't be real but my graph will show a 10% gain over stock. Give us the times.

 

Hmm I don't get it the fun stuff for me is taking it slow . That's why I have a Toyota truck. My 3rd gen with 800 extra pounds and E rated MT is way faster than the old 81 4x4 . The auto transmission hunts less that the 81's manual also . Still a Toyota though lol.
