We're paid really well to stay out, but still nope. I rather be home. Sooner or later I'll pack it in and say f-it. I don't know how long haul truckers do it and I have it easier than them

Just curious. How have you tracked the miles since the odo stopped? Trip meter?

trip still works. just keep a log of when the trip hits 10k. change the oil every 20k or 1 year with mobil 1 extended... its been a good car.

Figured that was the case. Strange that the trip works but the odo stops.
At ~700K, I'd say any car is a good car. But it takes a good owner to get it there

Fair enough. Unless you are a superintendent, it’s typically for only 2-3 days that you are out of town but if they are sending you out of town that long it’s usually 1500+ miles away to check in on a job site. Superintendents knew signing up for the job though that they’d be out of town for many months at a time so they can’t be too upset by that

tell ya the truth. my father did very little to keep this running. its been on the 20k oil change since new, trans fluid was changed once at 250k.. 1 water pump (wasnt bad, tried to find a weird noise.. didnt fix it) and 2 alternators (the 1st replacement ended up being the noise).. past that its been wreaked twice. I bought it a year ago now, he still takes it to work (140 miles a day) but ive cleaned it up alot.. clear coated the headlights, new struts, new tires... past that its been very low maintenance

Says a lot for the quality of the car. While that's still more maintenance than most people seem to do, it's less than I'd have guessed for a car with that many miles. I am impressed.

The little ol tacos in the family are just as good. mine had 297 before i ripped her apart.. the white one my dad owns has 156k and its had no issues yet.
Toyota just makes good engines. Working for toyota i can say the 05-08 corolla 1.8, all of the 3.5l (no DI engines), the mz series.. all of them ive seen at least a few past 300k. many 3.4s and 2.7s too

That's what I like to hear! Nice hearing countless positive reports of the vehicle you have. Now if only the frame wasn't shit.

Not me, just a field tech. Company policy is if it's over 40 miles from home it's mileage. And if over 60 it's a hotel room.

I'd be eligible for a frame now had the original owner brought the truck in for inspection/spraying before the deadline. But nope. So now it's on me to fix it instead of being gifted the greatest gift.

man that sucks. Best bet would be to find a used frame from down south. patching works, but chances are the rust will just come back fairly quick. (unless you take the time to remove all the rust physically possible) actually doing a frame swap isnt too hard. ive done a few of them now.. 2-3 day job depending on how hard you work (this is with 2 racks mind you)

I've considered frame swap, but it's simply not in the budget. And I have no place/means to do it. My frame isn't that bad, but it's bad enough to warrant action so it doesn't become too far gone.

FWIW, I had a pretty bad squeak/creak that was driving me nuts. Tried everything, then came across some thread that talked about over-tightening the front spring eye bolt too much causes binding. I've got Alcan's and after backing off the bolt and re-torquing, no more noise

Installed those aluminum aftermarket rear vent wing pivot links that replace the plastic. I've had them sitting around for a while and figured it was time
