Also when I ordered back on 1-1, there wasn't anything on lots, they weren't even making them yet.

4 doors are huge for Jeep. You can't get a Sahara in a 2 door, only 4 door now.

Wow... I didn’t realize unpopular the 2 door models have become. Like Jason, I remember when they were only available in 2 door. I also remember all the backlash and how up in arms people got when they slightly stretched the 2 door. Then they came out with the 4 door and it was like blasphemy. Apparently, it’s blown over and people have come around to them, haha.

Got power back!!!!!! No more house hopping between my parents and my in-laws, since Tuesday night. God it feels good to be home. Shout out to the crews working endlessly to get power back to everyone eventually.

Morning everyone. Happy Monday. Back to the usual routine. Luckily it's a short week for me. Taking Thursday and Friday off to go to my cousin's wedding in TX. WOOT WOOT!

I borrowed my parent's, but since we have an electric water heater it doesn't have enough juice to power it. We used it mainly for the two fridges, the well pump, and to have some lights on whenever we were here cleaning up outside and the wife and kids were here.

We'll see... I think the only kind of generator that would make sense for me, so we wouldn't have to house hop, and because of my house set up, would be one of those monster ones that kicks on whenever the power goes out, and has enough juice to power everything... but those are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

    Happy Monday all.

Nuno - I'm sure you already know, those automatic gen sets run on either natural gas or propane. If running off a tank of propane, you'd want to see how long it'll go before you run dry. On the plus side with propane, you could move away from an electric water heater. Also, once you buy a generator, for some reason the power stops going out...

Yeah, that's why I was saying you gotta start saving up!!! We put one in at work that will do everything in our small building, I think it was a 30kw or something close to that, it's connected to an underground propane tank. After buying it and getting it installed (wiring etc..) we were close to 20k. NOT cheap, and hard to justify as a homeowner. BUT if you can swing it...it sure is a nice thing to have....but I think it is more of a "everything else in my house is perfect, retirement account looks good, now how can I make it even more perfect" type of purchase, not really a necessity.

Now on the other hand, for our main building we have an old army diesel generator with a manual switch on that can't power our AC, but can do most everything else. We got that for free though because we are a backup emergency shelter for the town. It is way bigger, louder and uglier than the pricey one...but they are for sale all over the country for like 2-3 grand. Probably could run a house pretty easy.

Same thing I noticed looking for my truck.

Why would I want want a crew cab to suffer with a 5-1/2 ft bed? Or if I got one with a 6-1/2 ft bed it'd be enormous and may not even fit in the garage. My supercab is plenty big enough, especially since I'm in my mid 20s with no kids.

    Morning, peoplefaces.
Spent Saturday morning working, and Saturday afternoon chasing electrical issues on the '69. Dash lights haven't been working, so I replaced the fuse. Popped it as soon as I turned the headlights on. All of the gauges were still working fine, so I've been putting it off (because I hate chasing electrical problems, lol), but a rainy Saturday seemed like the perfect opportunity to hide in the garage and rip my dashboard apart  3 hours of chasing wire later I was able to find the problem and fix it; loose connection on a hot wire that had welded itself to a grounded surface on the dash frame. Under a rubber cover, of course, so you couldn't see it until you tried to unplug it. :frusty:

Sunday was spent working in the garden/yard, which is finally up and running for the season. Got the last of the plants I'd started inside into the ground. Much later than usual, but it's been a wet spring, and we were still getting frosts just last week! Even my raised beds were sopping wet for much longer than usual this year.

You should take some time and find out what the draw is on the items you'd want to run at your house in the event of a power outage. I have a relatively small generator, it will run the boiler and circulating pump and 1 refrigerator at the same time. It's a pain in the ass, but I could cycle refrigerators to power as needed. The refrigerators and / or hot water don't need to be plugged in full time if you can plan ahead and keep the refrigerator doors closed as much as possible.

That said, find out what your actual draw is for the items you want and you may find that a large portable generator will do it. They make 12,000 W portable generators for around $2-3,000. The added expense would then be a transfer switch unless you can either do it yourself or do something inline with the circuits to prevent backfeeding the panel (you'd have that expense regardless of the generator you choose, unless you just run extension cords from the generator to the device).

My dad is an electrician, so I'd be all set with getting a set up to plug it in and run it whenever I needed it.

Definitely all things to consider. But not anytime soon, that's for sure... I'm sure the prices will be jacked up even more now because of what happened, not to mention there is likely not any generators to be had for miles around here.

Maybe when things go back to "normal".
