I recently had a remote start installed on my 2018 truck and was informed the truck will die if you open the door. Evidently its a factory setting he didn't think could be bypassed. So question is anyone know how to get around this and if so what's the process. Hope this opens sum discussion and have really enjoyed all the info on this forum. Thanx guys

When I had my remote start put in they told me the same thing. Since then I haven’t heard of any way to keep the truck running when a door is opened.

as of the moment, there is no way around it. its a safety feature for our trucks that have a "push-to-start-button".

I think it is a function of the remote start; not the truck. I have a '16 TRDOR and open my door all the time with the engine running and it has never shut down the truck.

everyone can start the truck them self and enter/exit truck freely. but no one can remotely start the truck and then enter it with out it turning off and having to restart the truck

It's not a function of the remote start. It is a safety feature that Toyota built in. Nobody has been able to bypass it yet.

I would have preferred that it did something else like kill the truck if you pressed the brake to put it into gear, but allow it to keep running if you had the key with you.

I agree it just seems redundant and basically eliminates the need for a remote start at all

No it is nice here in the cold weather to warm up and be able to scrape ice off easier.

Though I have my brake controller mounted such that I can hold the manual switch on the brake controller, and then hit the start button and it will start the truck so I don't have to climb in to start it back up.

I believe this could be solved by tape lol

Tape the door open trigger in so that it can't sense a door open.

There's other security things this may actually fuck with like if a door is opened without the alarm being disabled as it won't sense the open door but hey

My Nissan Titan rental from last week had remote start and a keyless push button start. It would keep the truck running, but you couldn't drive it away unless the fob was in the vehicle. Seems unnecessary / annoying in my eyes.

Unrelated: And it had a V8 that got 22 MPG on the freeway (admittedly stock)... If a Tundra could do that, I would get a full size in a heartbeat.

Oh I have no clue I don't have remote start nor care for it. Just know where the door switch is because of the stupid design that if you turn off the truck with door open it won't shut up until you close the door . So I just hold it closed while I turn off if I need to keep the door open like testing wiring

All remotes work that way on the taco, it's a Toyota setting. It would be nice
to not have to restart it each time, not sure who else does it but I know for sure
the Ford Explorers stay running when the door is opened and I assume Fords other
    vehicles operate the same way.

Mine beeps as well just figured there may be a tech savvy Taco owner who had jumped around the switch. I have remote start and it pays off on HOT Ca afternoons and I don't burn myself climbing in.
