Aftermarket 16" or 17" rims

I've been talking to a friend who works for a tire/wheel shop and he's been looking for a set of brushed aluminum rims for my '08 DC.

He said that most all his sellers are telling him that there's a problem with most 16" aftermarket rims, particulary with Tacomas because of the brake calipers/pad...has anyone else heard of this?

Also...what aftermarket rims (brand) will work to replace my 16x8 stock alloy rims....I'm not getting the additional TPS for the new set (I am planning on 4 new tires to go with the new rims) and run the stock set in the winter...I can live with the dashboard light being on...those sensors are over $100 a piece!..ouch!

I believe there are SOME 16" wheels that won't fit over the caliper...but if you search around here there are plenty of people running 16s so the manufacturer/reseller may be erring on the side of caution when they say "nope, it won't fit the Tacoma".

 

go with 17's because they wont rub if you decide to lift your truck down the road

 

I have aftermarket 16x8 rims from les schwab and I do not have any problem with it.

 

Just curious, what's the reasoning behind the diameter of the wheel having anything to do with rubbing? I have not heard of that before.

Edit: assuming you're talking fender rubbing

 

I was told that to when i bought mine, but been rolling on these for about 8 months. Cepek DC-1's 16x8 with LTX M/S 270/70/16's

 

well i think if you get a 3 inch lift you just have to have the right backspacing but if you go with the rcd or pro comp or fabtech you have to get 17s or 18s with the right back spacing
