Alpine Power Pack

I am wanting to install new speakers in my 3rd gen but am wanting to retain the factory headunit. Has anyone had any experience with the Alpine Power Pack in order to amplify the factory headunit? If so, how did it turn out? Thank you!

yea, I helped install one in a WRX, pretty neat little setup, works pretty well to give extra power to the door speakers.

Yea, very straight forward.

I would use one to power door speakers any day.

 

I have a 2014 DCSB (sorry, not a '16 like yours) and it really helped with sound quality and loudness. The only problem I had with my '14 stereo was that there was a slight hiss, you could only hear it at low volumes. This was with stock speakers mind you. I've since changed out my head unit and removed the amp, but overall experience was positive and it was a pretty easy install.

 

How was the install for the stock wiring?

 

very easy, at least I think it was. The only problem was the I could not fit the amp behind the stereo, the fit was way too tight and I had to move the amp to the glove box. So, then I had to extend the wires from behind the HU to the glove box. No biggie, but it took a little more time. I have gotten rid of the stock HU, Entune, and bought a Joying unit. While the new HU has a ton more features, the sound is just OK. Probably going to look at either a better HU or putting the Alpine on the new HU.

 

Put mine in center console next to shifter . Easy to access. Also needed to extend wires.

 

do you have a better picture of your console? What I mean is, that's a great idea, not sure of what I'm looking at though. LOL. I may reinstall mine and I need a better place to put it.

I re-installed my Alpine Power Pack this weekend. Wow, what a difference. Wired straight to fuse block and a more solid ground this time, the sound out of my Joying HU is actually more enjoyable...LOL. Installed Pioneer 6.5" in the rear doors and it really woke up.

 

I just had BestBuy replace my stock front and rear speakers w/Kickers, and install an Alpine Pak. The sound is super muddy and I lost all clarity and seperation between frequencies. Its a low middy muffled sound, much louder, but awful. The rear 6 1/2's now sound kind of like a transistor radio. (I think maybe out of phase now). Also they replaced the stock front 6x9's with 3way kickers, when I had single 6x9s in the door w/tweeters in the dash. My stock setup sounded better, just had no oomph. But basic clarity was there. Went today and made appt to go back tomorrow and said they will check filter settings to see if they can make me happy. Whats weird is that he told me he thought it sounded great, and its truly a muddy mess. I dont think they hear the difference. I may have them pull it all and revert back to stock and go elsewhere. Any thoughts? No real skills on installation knowledge, but I do know eq, mixing. It sounds like crap. Hoping for insight..

 

What did they charge for the install?I'm not at all happy with the sound in my 15 non jbl system

 

nizzmont it was 65 per set of spkrs and 79 for the amp.. about 210.00.

 

Thanks for the Intel,I'm no stranger to doing my own stereo stuff but with all the adapters and stuff you need now days I might sub it out lol.

 

Question: I had a "professional" installer install my power pack to the factory entune head unit and they didn't run the power wire to the battery. I know the instructions say that it must be ran to the battery if the head units fuse is less than a 15amp. Should it be fine as is or should I have them redo it? Thanks!

Nah. I just left it alone. No probs as of right now.
