He has seemed a bit onery lately.
I am not super happy with CSF either. Their marketing dept was super responsive when I was ready to make them money on this radiator with a new platform without having to change manufacturing. Then they asked me about promoting a transmission cooler. I said sure if you GIVE it to me then I will do the same thing I did with the radiator. I have called and emailed a few times with no answer and no reply.
Running a business is like being a boss...if you take care of your people they will take care of you.

I just contacted them today. Must have been getting some pressure because the last I saw, @mach1man001 said they didn't have plans for one yet.

 

Mine's getting installed today.

 

I still like the idea of the larger one personally. But the idea of not having to buy a new shroud does make it much more affordable. And for some reason my head seems to think that if I were to just modify my smaller shroud to work with the larger radiator that it would loose some efficiency. But my head has been known to way overthink the most basic things.

 

It's just in the 90's here with a little twist of humidity. Need more cooling. I'm never at 180 with the stock thermostat/radiator.

 

I thought the factory thermostat was a 190? I am at 190-195 all the time, even in the dead of winter.

 

Stock thermostat is stamped 82° C which comes out to 179.6° F

 

Me need more cooling then. Thank You.

 

Maybe a tiny bit but keep in mind when you're moving airflow will travel through the bottom (unshrouded portion).

That's because the thermostat is at the front of the motor getting cool post radiator coolant. The temperature sensor is at the back of the motor taking temperature after the coolant has passed through the hot engine.

 

True, I had since sent them an email and got a similar response as you did above!!! I also asked because they do make trans and oil coolers if they were going to making a performance transmission specifically for our trucks and they said that yes they have plans to adapt an existing cooler to make a trans cooler for the 4.0L Tacoma's!!!

 

That would be great. Towing my camper into the mountains always brings my temps way up. I've seen 250+ in my transmission more often than I care to admit, an additional cooler has been on my radar for a couple of years but there's always something else.

 

Thanks to all of the "pioneers" who kept at it with CSF to build a "plug-n-play" Radiator for the 4.0L Tacoma engine. I bought one of their replacements for a '95 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2L engine years ago. Lasted a couple of years. Bought another thinking the first was a quirk. The 2nd one didn't do much better.
Other people have had better luck; maybe I was just the victim of a bad batch. Anyway - good to know there's another option out there besides OEM when the time comes to replace.

 

Hopefully their quality has improved.....

 

Same here, then, one day, bam I needed a new trans. I hope you do not have the same fate. I towed without knowing the trans temp for two years, got a scanguage II, noticed the temps, put a larger cooler in, and needed a trans 8 months later. Highest i saw was 269, before the big cooler, after the big cooler it was 248.
