This is the only forum I'll ever be on that goes from talking about someone dying in a fatal car crash to being hungry for steak.

    Never change, TacomaWorld.

Only thing worse than working retail is working in the food serving industry.

Or anything customer service related for that matter...

Working with people sucks in general

I work seasonally in the high-end catering industry and it's not that bad, people are generally polite. Now retail fast food and restaurants is what's bad. Just retail in general.

Take home truck. That reminds me of my old neighbor, he had two Tacomas. One was his personal truck and one was his company issued truck - both were exactly the same white 2nd gen extended cab utility package.

Yeah I'll take a hard pass on any career related to customer service, unless it was a lucrative business that I owned. But even then it would take a lot of patience and therapy to get to that point.

I'm pretty lucky in that I work full time in a photo studio and pretty much only interact with our in-house team...even though some of them drive me insane daily. Still better than dealing with self entitled consumers...I like the 3rd gen analogy, lol

Yeah I hear ya. I traded the freelance life for the corporate 9-5 a few years ago because I needed stability financially, which I got...yet I have to remind myself daily why I did it; working for a corp. has plenty of its own stresses. Still though, it's nice knowing you have a reliable income.

I did just about everything in the catering industry - cooking, cleaning, bussing, running, managing, etc. Last gig I was the food runner at this huge Prom at this science museum in downtown San Jose. Didn't have an ice machine on site, so I drove to the Safeway and spent $98 on ice, plus the $8 it cost to have the privilege to park in Safeway's garage, and another $60 to park in the museum's lot for six hours. Thank god the company paid for it. Still can't believe how much of a ripoff it was. Customer wise I've never had a bad experience, luckily I've known the boss since I was growing up and she always had my back.

And that's my co-worker who I dragged along because I wasn't about to lug two carts of ice through a busy downtown supermarket by myself. Guess why I'm the food runner... I'm the only one who drives a truck.
