I added a BU camera which is on a switch because I use it mainly for backing up the trailer to line up the hitch.
I think I want to get it to go on always with reverse. I can easily have it either way with a DPDT switch, but i need a back up light power on/off...

So any idea where I can pick up the back up light wire?
    Maybe in the shifter console?

Run a wire from the back corner of the bed to the dash?
Isn't that a lot to take apart?

I saw another YouTube video showing the same BU light wire behind the glove box.
I hope between outxider's post and the youtube one I can find a wire behind the dash and tap into it. The wire at the reverse light in the bed is last resort.
    But Thanks

Yup, pull the light off, tap the wire and run it into the cabin(I'm assuming you have an aftermarket back up camera). Thats how I was taught.."always run a wire with the camera cable, just in case".

You'll get a "12v" reverse signal at the light. Sometimes when you tap off a reverse signal inside the cabin, you don't get enough voltage to power the camera.

Or you can keep the camera on accessory power(always on when the vehicle is on) and try connecting the reverse signal in the cabin to the reverse wire on the radio. Depending on the radio, you might have the option of switching to the camera with out being in reverse. And you'll probably have to turn on the reverse camera on the radios menu(so it turns on when the radio senses the reverse trigger).

Hmm that sounds reasonable. I will have to try both methods. It is an aftermarket camera. I have it powered from the fuse panel to a small rocker switch (on/off) I put into one of the blank switch covers down low on the left side of the dash. I have DPDT switch, so I can replace the single pole one and I keep the power from the dash (position 1 on the PT switch) but only use it when I am maneuvering the boat trailer (or driving down the road I can see rear view,,,kinda cool).
I will leave the switch on position II so that only the reverse 12v signal turns it on. But yes it should have the full 12v. This is now tied into the reverse wire from the deck. Any time it sees 12v from the camera, it defaults whatever is on and shows the rear view.

I will be on this as soon as I have the time to fiddle around again....too freakin busy....
