Help On Lift! Please!

I have a 2016 4x4 Sport, I want to install a lift and run 285 65 R18 Nitto Ridge Grapplers and 18" Fuel Wheels -12 offset. Honestly speaking, I will never ever take my truck off road, unless to drive down through a field to get to a fish pond somewhere. I have seen a lot of nice trucks on this forum and have gotten a lot of great ideas and information. But I am still confused on lifts.
Do I just need to "level"? what exactly does that include doing to the truck. Is that enough to run that tire and wheel without rubbing? or do I need to go with a 3" lift and is that actually 3" or is that 2.75" and the truck just sits 3" higher? Im confused! If anyone has this set up, please post some pics...Need some advice bad! Thanks in advance!

I was in the same shoes being told to search and search. Don't use the search function on the forum, go to google and type out the topic you are wondering about and also write in Tacoma world and you would be surprised on how many forum threads pop up.

The rabid people will yell at you for even considering a level, but if you never ever go offroad, level kit is just fine. That tire is about 32.6" and a 3/1 level kit will work just fine up to 33" tire. Depending on the offset, you may have to trim a little and will most likely have to lose mudflaps if you have them.

 

Just to make sure you understand . . ."you may have to trim a little . . ." That means cutting into your pretty truck.

If you are still researching “level” vs “bro” vs “lift” I’d suggest calling some places like ToyTec to get additional insight and expertise.

Never say never on off-road. Once you get stuck in two foot deep mud you never go back!

 

That is one thing I'm confused about...I don't want to cut, trim, etc to my "Pretty Truck" and I know that not all fitments require cutting...That's the problem, What fitments don't require cutting, with the tire and wheels I choose? How do I know what wheels, tire combo to pick?

 

That's why you see so many people asking "what size tires, what size offset, what lift, and any rubbing?" over and over. There isn't any tried and true answer that I've seen but from what I can tell, 32" tire with 0 offset is pretty safe with no trimming or maybe some light trimming with a heat gun (won't affect how "pretty" your truck is). I could be wrong.

 

But why is it not tried and true? 32" tire and 0 offset is safe with what lift? Why is a -12 bad? am I wrong in thinking that the offset is only about 1/2" ?
285 65 18 is 32.6" tall. Will that work with say 5100's @0 with 2887 OME coils, and 5100's with AAL in back? BTW I have a double cab.
