I had about 25-30k on my pads when the slap started. I ignored it over the winter, because I couldn’t hear it with the windows up.

Added a second set of spring clips and they don't do it at all. Worked for me.

Good to know. I have an extra set. Next time my front wheels are off, I’ll install them.

I added the upper spring clips and it does nothing at all, in fact its louder as the pad wears and gap increases, only legit way to temporarily stop the slap is to replace the pads, there is no permanent fix for the slapping pads.

time to replace the pads and rotors. well the pulse is caused by rotors but if your doing rotors you might as well do pads to

Maybe someone already explained the engineering behind this noise, but WHY is this the first & ONLY vehicle i have ever owned/driven thats makes this noise when braking?

I cannot even comprehend how such a thing occurs on a production vehicle in 2015 (specifically speaking to my trucks year, i know its across many years).

I shopped for a truck for nearly a year and was all over this forum. I wish I would have once stumbled upon this "acceptable" pad slap issue. I would have never spent $30k+ on a vehicle that startles people walking in my neighborhood each time i brake. When they turn they must assume they will be seeing a pile of garbage drive by a teenager...nope. Just an adult driving an essentially brand new truck. Carry on.

Lots of dollars and no sense...
Hold on. People are saying they hear this slap because of worn pads? It's my inexperienced understanding that the slap occurs from a shifting front to back motion by the whole pad and nothing but the pad so help me... This would create a visual in my head of the pad rocking back and forth like one of those damn spring loaded horses at a playground. And the only want to stop this front to back, street would be to replace pins so as to stop the front to back slap. Regardless of pad thickness. And to strengthen that point, my old pads, no slap, were worn down to the metal scraper to let me and everyone in a mile radius know that I needed to change my pads. I only have 7k on my new pads and already slap happy.

The new Colorado has a similar front caliper and in three years since it came out, we have had no complaints about brake pad noises. I noticed the pad retainer seems much more robust. Number 3 in the illustration.

I wish I knew what the answer is but the fact of the matter is that there isn't really a permanent solution to it,ive tried all suggestions but its still there. mine is way more pronounced since warmer weather and having the windows down. I get in unison the passenger side(clack) quickly followed by the driver side(clack), like this clack, clack I get 2clacks for the price of one, but ill never get rid of the truck because of it .

Yes. My 2013 DCSB just started having this problem, and I found this thread. For anyone else who has to deal with this, here is a good video I found that demonstrates the sound. I am going to replace the pads and rotors later this week and hopefully that solves the brake slap sounds for me.
