CB is fine for normal trail comms within a smaller trail group. Most everyone has a CB and I have two handheld units I can lend out

The HAM radios will be a bonus for longer distance comms.

If there’s a couple of HAM guys mixed in with every group, then we’ll have further reach into other trail groups. That would be cool, just for knowing what’s ahead, what to avoid, and most important, possible emergencies.

Try for the HAM License. It’s a fairly easy exam that you need to get at least 26 out of 35 questions.

You don't want to buy us all new radios?? haha I just thought it would be good to know whose got what.
Almost everyone that went on the DPT 2.0 trip last year had CBs and it seemed to work out pretty well for the most part.

So are a lot of people jumping over to the HAM comms... I think I'll stick with CB right now - I don't have time with travel and work right now to try to commit to the HAM test (I haven't been home for more than 2 days in the last 5 weeks). Not to mention I still have a huge to-do list before I can go on this trip.

I agree. If you have a CB setup, that’s a tried and true trail comm. I will continue to use my CB.

I only keep mentioning the HAM test because several pages ago, peeps were talking about buying and using hand held HAM radios during this trip, some (not all) without knowing that there is a licensing requirement for the legal use of these types of radios.

After all, I’m pretty sure no one here would go hunting or fishing without the required license. Same would go for transmission over certain radio frequencies.

I’m not a HAM radio expert by any means. I just took and passed the test a few months ago. Hell, I never have programmed or used my two HAM radios coz there’s no one I know that’s licensed to talk to near me.

I’ve been wanting a HAM radio for years and my brother kept pestering to get my license the past three years. When I finally told him I was gonna take the test, he sent me a big ass antenna. It’s still sitting in my garage.

I’m hoping this trip might give me the opportunity to use my radio with some licensed HAMs.

If not, that’s ok too. Since I still have my trusty CB

I think Kentucky and Tennessee are the best part of that HAM.

    But the best is Florida...bacon.

I have been trying to find an assistant for almost 2 months now. The league even offered a couple redsox tickets, but no takers.

I wish, its like getting the committee chair to cover, you know they will but feel really bad because you know how much time they already give to the organization.

I got a CB if we are still adding that to list of participants. Needs to be tuned but i can do that before we go. My only other options is yelling out the window, seems to work alright sometimes.

That's just the electric version of yelling out the window.
