2018 TRD PRO Grille w/ TSS-P Radar Info/DIY

All you need is a piece of hard plastic to cover the 2 holes in the grille where the sensor is. I used a 3x2 piece of kydex but I would go a little bigger. Maybe like 3.25x2.25, I used some glue called RapidFuse to glue the plastic on and that worked great, I would also put some on the back of the TOYOTA letters for a little insurance.

Where exactly is the Kydex placed and what did you secure it with?

 

Over the 2 holes where the radar goes (on the inside). I put a link for the glue that I used in the post above yours.

 

I used the 18 pro grille (you now need a VIN) with garnish. Plug and play. Thanks OP for the instructions.

 

Did you drill holes for mounting? Any chance you took pics that you can share with us here? I'm looking to buy a China Grill and use Kydex like you behind the honeycomb as I don't like the shiny look of the garnish.

 

No holes drilled. I'll take a picture of the back of it when I get home.

 

Not sure which grille you have, Factory or a different one. Just thought I would post a picture from the back of mine also to campare with your picture. Also I did not get the longer wireing harness I’ve heard some people say was needed.

 

Didn't talk to anyone? Find a Toyota dealer that sells parts online and search the site for the part numbers. The first two I hit said the part was no longer for sale. The parts showed up on the third dealer and when you order the parts you are asked to input the VIN number. At this point, I just used a VIN from a PRO truck that I found on-line at a near by dealer. Send me an email (username at gmail) and I'll send you the dealer that I used last week. I'm may be wrong, but, I'm sure Toyota trolls these sites looking for ways to improve their product and possible stop the purchasing of OEM Pro Grills for non-Pro trucks.

It’s dirty but there it is. You just glue the Kydex to the back of the grille.

 

I'm diggin this method... Seems a $5 piece of non shiny plastic attached to the plug/insert that comes with the grille is a much better solution than an $80 shiny garnish. This is what I'll be doing as soon as I get it!

 

I couldn’t agree more. And the kydex I used was free! Just paid the $100 for the grille. Shipping was surprisingly quick from China too.

 

Thanks for the write up, it helped because from the videos I saw the new grille was supposed to have screws however it seems the 2018 grille does not require them, I got both the grille and garnish from my local dealer with a VIN from the new pro they had sitting on the lot, and with my discount after taxes am only $243 and some change into it, much better then the chrome on the front!

3rd attempt at a pro grille was a success! I got confirmation that my order was shipped! I’ll be installing it next week, along with an update.

 

Just another testimonial for NOT using the factory garnish... Installed my pro grille today. I couldn't find kydex locally,so I used a piece of plastic cut from the factory license plate holder(pic) to fill in the open space and protect the sensor. After a successful test drive, I'm happy to say goodbye to the stock 2018 offroad grille! Thanks again for all the pointers !

 

Did you glue it in place? If so, what glue did you use?

 

Great idea! I need to do this over the weekend.

 

I didn't have any glue handy so I used a couple of small strips of outdoor double-sided tape, and ran a thin bead of clear silicone along the edges just in case the tape fails....if it all fails, I'll get some real glue! It isn't the prettiest solution,but unless you're looking from the back side, you can't see it anyway

 

Installed my $90 eBay grille with the factory garnish that I bought. What took me the longest time was taking off the sensor cable before realizing pushing the tabs from the top which made it everything easier. Broke a few tabs off the old grille but tosses tossed it away since I don't plan on reselling or reusing any of it. Used some glue on the back of the letters where the it looks through the grille for double protection from falling off.
