Motor mounts, can someone explain to me why Toyota doesn’t do anything about this?

    Agreed. There is no excuse for failures like this. This is not normal wear or failure on a 13 year old truck. After 30 years I would expect the rubber to give up, but not the mount.

    Toyota sells their trucks based on a well earned reputation. The gen 2 has not lived up to that rep in many ways, and eventually the worm will turn on Toyota because of it. There have been a long list of problems denied, but quietly fixed through the Gen 2 years. The motor mount problems on the early Gen 2s should be recall.

    The unrealistic expectations customers have of vehicles is unreal. Working in a dealership I see it daily.

    I'm sure there are many other vehicles on the road of various brands that failures of frame parts, etc. It's normal after 13+ years...

    Lol, if you think motor mounts (rubber) should only fail after 30 years, you're a maniac

    Routinely see them broken on vehicles that are 7-10 years old at work.

    I'm not a fan boy of anything just because I own it. The Gen 2 is a decent truck, but I have also spent many hundreds of hours, and thousands of dollars dealing with issues of poor design and engineering. At this point, I have way too much money and time invested to ever get rid of it.

    At least they keep their resale value. OP could post it for sale and some one would buy it in a heart beat even with the cracked frame

    this is why you dont buy 05's.... or 06's for that matter for the motor mount issue and old style headgaskets that are known to go bad as well.

    OP take it back to the dealer, return it and get something else.

    You want to talk about bad motor mounts, how about every gm truck from 2007 to now for a bad driver side motor mount with stupid low miles.

    Or Fords that blow spark plugs out or have timing chain problems, or Dodges that have transmissions that blow up, or Cadillac Northstar motors, or... Before I bought my Taco, I researched the Ford OHC 4.0L. That is the dumbest designed motor ever. I wouldn't take one if it was free.

    If you compare the 05-07 tacoma to what else was available in the mid-size range at that same time, ill take a toyota with a cracked motor mount any day of the week! S10 blazer, Ford ranger.. give me a break!

    @Ceddingermtb ,
    You’ve owned it a bit over a month and bought it from a dealer...you got the gussets...I’d go back to the dealer and talk w them about reimbursement for some or all of your expense. Most offer some sort of warranty, check your state laws. Also, I’d search this forum for any other known issues for the 2005s, check your truck to see if it has them, then discuss further reimbursement or cost share w the dealer. Good Luck!

    ^Most sensible response so far.
    Frame wasn't on a recall. It was a service campaign (effectively a longer warranty). You won't find it on NHTSA's web site: www.safercar.gov

    Agreed, back in March I was in a rollover accident in my 1st gen,and walked away with no injuries at all, and a couple days later, someone in a ranger was in an almost identical accident, but going slower than I was, and had to be airlifted, and nearly died

    It is pretty frustrating to find this after the fact.. But be patient and look around for some welding guys that can help you out. If you get past this issue you could have a nice rig that will serve your needs for a long time
