It had been idling already for a couple minutes but believe me I’m in 5th gear I would know if I’m not it engages fine and rpms drop once I shift from 4th to 5th

damn...I don't know what my stock gear ratio is exactly (2004 v6 5speed) but I have the same size tires as you and I'm at 2800 RPMs at 70mph. 4k sounds awful high...

Wonder if your e-brake cable is stuck on, or the rear drums are partially engaged...something that might be forcing the truck to have to work a lot harder to maintain speed..?

I’m not sure I haven’t really paid attention how much it drops but I’ll only rev out to 3 or 3500 within shifts

I have a 5 speed with the v6 and I'm looking at 2500 rpm I think when I am cruising at 70 mph. Are you sure of the gear ratio?

Can you verify the speed independently with GPS?

4000 RPM is around the torque peak for that engine IIRC. It shouldn’t be spinning that fast at 70 mph.
