That's terrible, I think I only paid like $50-60 for parking at the World Series a few years back. When/where was this?

It's right by AT&T Park, I think Townsend St. and 5th Street or something like that. Happens during high attendance events at the stadium.

Last time I saw a game there it was still called PacBell Park and they had a massive Coke slide.

Oh the Coke slide is still very much alive and well. It's been AT&T Park for about 14 years now.

Silicon Valley is probably the main reason, SF is basically the Northern extension. They just built the new Salesforce cloud computing building downtown.

Do you know how many tech companies started in a garage in the Bay Area? Too many...

Any events in Austin parking garages do the same here too.

Well that's cool to know, one day I'll go see a game there again. Have some footage of my parents and their friends at Candlestick park way before it was demolished. They did one of those gag announcer bits where they let you call the plays as if you were the TV announcer haha, my dad and his buddy got real creative with that and they ended up giving him the tape. This was back in 1992. My family pretty much lived in Cali up until 2002 so lots of good memories still there and we moved back for a bit after that too.

I have yet to see a game there, I've really only seen Warriors games at Oracle Arena in Oakland, and a couple A's games next door. With the Raiders moving to Las Vegas and the A's moving elsewhere, they're planning on demolishing the Colosseum next to it. Kind of sad to see it go, it's one of the last convertible Baseball and Football stadiums in the country.

im well aware of how the tech companies and all but destroyed the bay area unless you're basically a millionaire.

or you would be if you didn't have to pay the insane living costs.

While the bay area is by far the worst..really I look at most city and see the same thing anyways. Makes more happier all the time to be in the middle of nowhere.

Personally I like it because I've never lived anywhere else in my life, so I'm a little biased. I was born in Oakland, and grew up not too far away. But it's near everything, and there is always something to do. You can drive two hours Southeast and be in the desert, two hours North and be in the snow, and half an hour West and be in the Pacific Ocean.

But you're right, it's not for everyone. The Silicon Valley basically ruined Northern California for anyone who doesn't make tons of money. It's starting to happen to Austin, Texas too.

Living near all these big cities is nice. I can order something off Amazon, and have it on my doorstep in 2 hours. There's food delivery, grocery delivery, gas delivery, delivery delivery, just about anything you can need - realistically you never need to leave your house.

yeah I mean we have crazy parking fees here in LA too (don't even get me started on our outrageous parking violation ticket costs...) but $8 to park at a drug store like Rite Aid is insane. Most of our crazy parking costs are in areas like downtown and Hollywood, which I avoid like the plague anyway. 10 miles outside of those areas and it's more reasonable (relatively) to live...unless you're by the beach.

At any rate...my photo career currently keeps me pretty much stuck here for the time being but I daydream 24/7 about living somewhere quiet with much less people and surrounded by nature. Just gotta figure out how to make it viable...or win the lottery. Whichever comes first.

Move out of California, the money you save will be the same as winning the lottery.

That's how I was before moving away from Seattle, after that I could hardly stand going back to the metro area. Too many people, too much traffic, too much money to pay and basically have nothing to call your own. The internet makes it so I can still have parts and such for my more obscure hobbies and I was near enough to a city that a 25-40 min drive could usually solve my issues.

Now being in PHX, well it's basically daily torture.

That's the plan. Hell, with $80k/year being the "poverty line" in Los Angeles right now (I'm sure it's worse in SF), anywhere other than CA sounds like a viable option.

edit: except NYC, but who in their right mind would want to live anywhere near there

So cool to take a day trip from a surrounding area, but even just staying in a lame motel or hotel is mid triple figures. I'd stay out of the rust belt if you like your truck, or any other metal investments you may have

I've always been around big cities my entire life. Always spend my weekends in San Fran, Oakland, San Jose - places like that. I go to Manhattan a couple times a year too.

About five years ago, I spent about a week in Meridian, Mississippi. Man I've been around this world to some obscure ass places like fishing villages in the middle of nowhere Spain, and some farm town Belgium so small it barely exists on the maps, but I have never in my life experienced the culture shock that is Southern Mississippi. There is absolutely nothing to do. It's churches here, churches there. Bars here, bars there. I swear the only thing to do there is Drink and go to Church. Whoever opens a Bar inside of a Church will make millions.

I remember walking into a Bed, Bath, and Beyond with my mom and the cashier had to ID her. This woman's mouth dropped open in shock from seeing a California ID, seriously. She was like 'WOW Y'ALL COME A FAR WAY.'

I'll admit though, it was beautiful. Wide open spaces, not that many people, and non existent traffic. I remember their airport was so small the people checking you in at the ticketing counter are the same people with the light sticks guiding the planes on the runways.

For sure...I see so many posts from 1st gen owners on here with baseball sized rust holes in their frame, talking about how "eh it's not too bad, my neighbor has worse" and it makes me cringe, lol. I enjoy having a frame that still looks like it did back in 2004 and not even having to maintain it. Minus the shit welded on to it now of course...

PNW is where my fiancé and I are most likely going to end up, got family already in Oregon and lived there as a kid. Just gotta wait for the right timing.
