I love my M/T. I’ve driven many manuals in my time from civics, Jeeps, GTIs, dodges, and the Tacoma is one of the easiest. After hearing the problems with the auto I’m thankful I got the M/T. Definitely drive both before you buy tho

No, S-mode does not allow you to put it in any gear you want. My wife's car lets me put my foot to the floor at 1500RPM or bounce if off the rev limiter if I want, and it doesn't shift. In Mazda's S mode, I choose the gear and that's that. That's how the S shifter should work in the Taco - you choose your gear. Not, you choose a gear and the truck takes it as a vague suggestion and can shift between anything up to that gear on its own. What is the point of that?

Whole reason I drive a midsize is for the manual transmission.

It’s ford grabber blue. Everyone loves the color. The fj40 purest talk shit out loud, but they all secretly want the color. Haha

I love both. Hate manuals in traffic Bc of clutch and the fact that i have to shift with my knee while eating a burrito. I hate automatics Bc they lurk forward in traffic and hit cars in front of me while texting. I vote Tesla! Geaux electric and “save the planet!”

    Lithium mining is harmless right?

Well for driving to work everyday in hilly terrain you want the automatic transmission if you drink coffee, especially if you leave for work before 0500. For the fun of driving you want the manual. I don't know how far you drive to work everyday and I don't know your level of enthusiasm for being connected to the vehicle by a manual transmission. So, I guess you will have to decide for yourself since you are paying for it.

I usually shift with my left hand while my right knee holds the wheel while my right hand feeds the coffee.

Do you have the data regarding the GTI manual vs DSG annual sales? (For US). I can't seem to find it. GTI is one car I wouldn't mind buying for a fun little commuter. I love the hatch design which can be very utilitarian.

A few years back a guy on TTORA got Carjacked and the would be thief could not drive his truck so he just took his wallet and ran away, better than losing his truck too.

The point of it is to keep it out of high gears while towing but retain automatic shifting. Makes more sense than select-a-gear functionality considering the platform.

Common skill among M/T drivers. There's also the *cough cup holders cough* right there next to the shifter lol.

Edit: Wheel gripped between pinky and top of knuckles of left hand (remainder of paw functionality used for deathgrip of coffee), shift normally with right hand. Juggle coffee between paws as needed. Non issue :)

Depends on what's more important, the model of truck you want or the transmission as the MT only comes in certain configurations whereas the AT comes in all configs.

I wanted a longbed with 4 doors more than anything but it only comes with the AT so the choice was easy.

I’ll keep this MT as my “last stand” for a weekend fun truck and gladly buy a car with no controls at all for my commute. “Take me to work, car.”

Side note: I love owning a MT bc I know 90% of people wouldn’t even know how to steal it if they wanted to. :luvya:
