Bought 5w-20...

I bought oil for both my wife's car and my truck and accidentally bought 5w-20 for my truck. I already changed the oil before I noticed I needed 5w-30. Will it hurt anything?

I just read searching that people don't like the FRAM filters. Did I make a mistake with that as well? What is so bad about them?

 

You're OK with the 5W-20, just be sure to go back to 5W-30 next time.

Some Fram filters are very good ( the extended guard ), and some are not very good ( the basic orange can ). But your truck prolly won't blow up because of it, just start using a better filter from now on. The OEM filters are good, as are M1, Pure one, Wix, Napa Gold.

 

Oh well. I bought the extra guard. I've been putting this same filter on my Mazda 3 for 80k miles now and never had an issue since I bought the car. Wondering why people say they have issues?

 

Considering you have a Louisiana summer coming up I'd seriously think of changing to recommended weight, especially if you do any significant towing. It may not kill the motor but 20w thins out way to much for comfort in an engine designed for heavier weight oil and will contribute to wear.

If a quality full synthetic it might be OK but I'd still be uncomfortable and drain a couple quarts and top back off with 5W-40 of same brand/type. Mixing isn't the best way to do it, but it's far cheaper than dumping all 5+ quarts.

 

Don't go there...I've been using Frams ever since high school and never had a problem. My brother also uses them. But I use the extra guard too, ever since I went to 10K drain intervals with synthetic.

 

You will be O.K. with the oil.
Not a big fram fan though.

 

I prefer WIX, if you are not seeing a dummy light for oil, then it's getting enough pressure and you will be fine.

 

i have been using the fram filters lately because i am too lazy to go to the dealer and pick up an oem. the extended gaurd ones have worked fine for me. the gray one, not the orange.
