Toyota is not selling wiring harness for 2018 Tacoma

They're talking about the aftermarket 4pin which truly is a piece of cake to install but doesn't give you towing brakes etc

Then you're fine with the aftermarket 4pin, you don't need trailer brakes for that. Etrailer sells a plug and play harness that goes behind your tail lights. No splicing or soldering required

 

This is the part number for just the plug but you would have to figure out the harness so its not much help.

 

His truck is a 4 Cylinder, I don't think they ever came with all the extras, just a hitch and wiring harness would be my guess.

 

Have you tried going to Uhaul to get a harness installed? It might not get installed in the cutout.

If you're towing nothing more than 2k, aftermarket 4 pin that plugs into your rear lights will do the trick

Wierd. My offroad came heated seats.

 

I was quoted $279 for the hitch and $139 for the wiring from a local shop that specializes in hitches. If you have a place near you that does 5th wheels and goosenecks, they also do regular hitches for our trucks and do the wiring too.

 

His profile says 2018 4cylinder SR. From a half-hearted attempt on toyota.com... I couldn't build an SR with or without a towing package (i.e. it didn't come up as an option).

 

Were the salesmans lips moving? Means he was lying in most cases.

And you did inadequate outside research.

So. Youll never have an OE tow package on that truck. You can add a hitch adequate for your loads, and then add a traditional 4 pin connector for lighting.

If you have an auto I'd add a scan gauge so you can monitor those temps. Adding an aftermarket trans cooler is not expensive.

As long as you tow light you'll be just fine.

BTW, there are nice brackets for a couple of bucks to mount that flat 4pin neatly under the bumper.

As far as the knockout? Just a universal bumper section to work on any Tacoma.

While there certainly is a difference when you buy a " tow package" to the "battery, alternator, and trans cooler" etc...the truck is rated for 3500 lbs as it is able to tow that much with the components that come with it. I only need it to tow 2000, so I am not worried about its ability to actually do the towing.

You can still use the cutout. It's already there. It will look dumb not to use it. Again etrailer has 4pin to 7/4pin adapters. Just tape up the extra 3 wires.

 

You'll be fine. You have the same exact transmission the V6 Tacomas have so overheating a tranny won't be an issue with you towing anywhere close to 3500lbs. In fact, our SR's have 4.30 gears so that in itself will help more than anything.

 

Wow is that right? The 2016+ V6 trans is the same that was available in North America behind the 2.7L 4banger since 2005?
