Motor mounts, can someone explain to me why Toyota doesn’t do anything about this?

Just because you acknowledge problems doesn't mean you think something is crap.

In my case the drivers side motor mount pushed through the frame putting a big-ass hole in it and triggering Toyota to do my frame swap.

This was at 10 years and 396,000 km.

Exactly what I was going to do after I found out about this motor mount problem, and problem with the state laws is I bought it at a dealership in a different state. But we’ll see what happens

Agreed, other than this problem, I’ve loved the truck so far, and I think I’ll continue to enjoy it after I get it fixed up this weekend

No idea, but you should definitely ask the question. My truck was covered under their frame program which was done by geographic regions. I had received a letter instructing me to bring my truck in for a frame inspection.

Probably not. The US campaign was mostly in the northern states with road salt. Even if your California dealer wanted to help, they will have a hard time getting approval from Toyota corporate, since the rest of the frame is rust-free.

BTW, a frame replacement is very invasive process - you are letting a mechanic completely disassemble your truck and put it back together again. All it takes is a pinched wire or cracked vacuum hose and you can have gremlins forever. See: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/problems-after-frame-replacement.391917/ If the dealer refuses to help you, just go to an indie shop and do as @Torspd instructed:

So called the dealer yesterday, and the person on the phone told me that they would replace the mounts on their costs, so drive down there this morning, and they said they’re not going to do anything about it, and tried to let me let them look at it for 128$, so I left, gonan have to go welded it up this weekend

Well that’s frustrating. Did you speak with the Service/Sales/General Managers? If it’s still under warranty from your sale a little over a month ago, they assumed a big liability by having you drive out of there like that if something goes wrong related to your issue.
I know fixing it yourself is the path of least resistance but I’d be damned if I didn’t get something from them...Keep all receipts, go back and demand reimbursement from the owner, lodge a complaint and reimbursement claim w Toyota Corp. if you have to. I’d have a different stance if you’ve owned it for a year or two but you just bought it, from a dealer...Not right IMHO.

^This. And if you get no reimbursement after escalating to Toyota corporate, file a complaint against the dealer with the attorney general's office: https://oag.ca.gov/contact/consumer-complaint-against-business-or-company
So the service advisor either lied to you over the phone, or was just clueless and thought the mount was a bolt-on component...

Did the dealer actually give you a warranty when you bought the truck, or was it as-is? What's the name of this dealer?

Yeah, got it all welded up now, hopefully I can get reimbursed, didn’t want to wait after all the phone calls and such to get it fixed

The rust recall was a result of a class action lawsuit. Maybe some 05-06 owners with busted motor mounts can hire some lawyers and file a lawsuit. You'll have it a little easier because the frames were supplied by Dana Holdings Corp and they already have been found responsible for the rust issue.

Does anyone remember a previous rust recall on 1st Gen Tacomas in 2011? Guess who supplied those rusty frames? Dana. Dana was ordered to pay 25mil to Toyota for that recall. I'm sure they'll have to reimburse Toyota for the current recall as well.

Could you tell us what poor design and engineering issues you spent those hundreds of hours and those thousands of dollars on?

Yeah my question is, is there any trucks from 2005-2015 that are as reliable and hold their value as well as a Tacoma, at the same approximate price points? My buddy has a 2006 f150 supercrew that's worth 1500 bucks with 63k miles because of body rust.

Basing a decision solely on sunken costs is a great way to lose money. Not saying you should or shouldn't get rid of your Tacoma but I am saying that is a terrible way to make a decision.

People don't sell tanking stocks because "they would lose too much" and gamblers don't leave a table because they "need to win it back". As a monetary strategy, you are better off just flipping a coin to make decisions. With a coin flip the decision is right 50% of the time at least.
