pops coming from the front hub

sometimes i hear a wierd popin sound coming from my front hub...i just had it replaced last month....what could it be???

I would say ur cv's but your a pre runner, hummm I know in my uncles king ranch there was a little plastic seal that was broken and was making a popping. That would be my only guess.

 

Could it be the body bushing TSB? 2005 was the year, could have carried over?

All kinds of stuff: Worn ball joints, play in the CV, loose shock mounts, worn shock, loose bolt somewhere, loose steering-shaft, Loose lug nuts.

Try to find the situation that replicates it and have a buddy try to pinpoint it.

 

well i had some one stand outside and as i drove forward it was like a pop and a clunk,,,, but it doesnt always happen....i just had the whole left front of my truck replaced by toyota.and its coming from the left side

 

the noises are still going on.......seems to happen when i hit the brakes!!??

You sure it's not the brake pads shifting on the pins? A lot of people confuse that with other sounds. It's a very loud metallic "ting" sound. Is yours constant when you're rolling and applying the brakes or happen just once after backing up then pulling forward and hitting the brakes (or pulling forward, stopping, then backing up and applying the brakes)?

 

i can nly hear it when im going slow and apply the brakes

 

sounds very similar to the noise a lot of us get from the brake bad float. try backing up and hitting the brakes, then drive forward and apply the brakes. then go forwards and use the brakes again(without backing up this time) if it makes the sound the first time but not the second, i'd say it's the pad movement. if so, it's nothing to worry about.

 

soo i dont need new pads...........it only happens when going forward and hitting the n brakes

 

well, if the sound happens over and over again when hitting the brakes, and you haven't gone in reverse, it's probably not the pads.

to answer your question though, pad "float" does not mean you need new pads. all disc brakes have some pad float...you just hear it more frequently in ours

I'm still not clear on your explanation as to whether you tried the following. We can ease your concerns for sure on whether it's the normal pad float if you've done the following tests/answered the questions.

1. Is it happening when you first apply the brakes, or is it constant while applying the brakes?

2. If it's only happening when you first apply the brakes, you should be able to hear it in reverse too. Pull forward somewhere and stop. Then back up to about 10 mph and hit the brakes. You should hear it the moment you hit the brakes. And it won't be constant. Just a one-time metallic sound.

I hear it every night when I get home. I pull forward to back downhill into my garage. Coming to a stop in the street going forward will force the pads downward against the mounting pins. But since I've been driving forward all the way home, they're already resting in that position. So no noise at this point. But I then put it in reverse and back down the driveway. I get up to maybe 5 or 10 mph in reverse before I hit the brakes. At that first contact with the brakes, the pads shift up against the mounting pins causing the clunk/ting noise. It's fairly loud. You should be able to duplicate this example and hear them.

 

I get a popping sound when I turn my wheel to the right while backing up. It's like something is binding and then releasing. Don't think it's the brakes because I greased up the back of the pads. I replaced my old shocks with 5100 shocks and it's still doing it.

 

check to make everything is tight from when you installed the 5100s

 

ok thank you i do hear it in reverse now.but sometimes i can hear a ding then like a softer one right after.i will try to take a vid of it
