 howdy yall. I'm trying to plan a trip to visit my gf who is going to defense language school in Monterey without breaking the bank. Anyone who may be able to give some pointers and advice for that area?

No clue. Not familiar with the area at all. Never been close to cali

Tbh if I could survive without getting a rental , I'd like to get close to her base so we could taxi or walk around to wherever we go but I have no idea how expensive taxis/Uber's are and it looks like hotels in Monterrey are all booked up or $150/night so I'd be okay with going a little further away if it saved some money buttttt then again not sure if the money savings from the hotel will offset with the cost of a cab/taxi

Not sure if I need to just get a Rental.

Basically I could use some local advice
I was hoping for June 15th(Friday morning) and leave back to Houston Monday morning the 18th

@Houstonsbaddesttaco anything in Monterey is going to be expensive for this time of year, unfortunately. Salinas might give your wallet a break and ubers arent really any more expensive than other cities I have visited.

I've never Ubered ever tbh so I have no idea what they cost anywhere lol. Just always heard cali was way high on everything so I figured I'd ask locals first

    Right on.

I think Monterey is far enough that you’ll want to rent a car if you fly in. It’s a good two hour drive from SFO (light traffic).

But rental prices shouldn’t be too bad if you plan/pay in advance.

gotcha. I found a bundle on Expedia for a flight and 3 nights at a motel 6 in salinas for $600. But after rental and food, looks like it's gonna be a $1,000 trip and that's kinda high for a weekend lol.

    Freaking cali.

Getting a rental will be a lot better down there. Look into Marina or Sand City for cheaper motels. It’s only a few miles away from the language institute and I’d imagine cheaper than Monterey. Also please post a pic of your truck I need to see a Tacoma with 12” of lift and 24”x16” wheels before I die.

I was looking at moving closer but I don't know cali enough to know which cities are "trending" and overpriced cause they're growing and what the good ole cities are.
Like we have austin here which cost way tooo much but people keep moving to it so cost is just going up.
Last I checked tho, apartments are like $1,500-$2,000/month in her area which I couldn't afford with my current bills and income unfortunately
