Really do need to make sure it was a HG and not some other prob. though.

    Like "Why did it overheat"?

So what did the coolant look like?
Was the radiator as clean as the engine? What happened here.

Even if you drop in anew one, you don't want the same thing to happen again.

A heater core could have went out.

What if I clean up the top of the Pistons and take new pics. Maybe they might clean up a bit

I must have missed some posts. But it looks like you have the ability to rebuild it. Suggest have the block n heads taken to a good machine shop though.

Sure, you're in no hurry now. Try anything you can to save whatever you can.

BUT......taking them out and honing....even if you re use the rings.....is more gooder.

Still don’t see a flood car and this kid wouldn’t have gone and done all that work to clean it. The only thing I could see is that the front end damage was it. It has a new rh headlight so maybe he drove with the busted on and rain/ water got in to the intake behind that light:notsure:

Did you ever take the fuel sample? You need to get a sample from a fuel rail to see accurately what the engine last saw(clean clear glass jar)

I would to try and move those pistons a little after you clean up the walls and spray in lube really well. Need to see what the rest of the cylinder walls look like and if you can get the crank to move at all? I think and hope the crank is fine after seeing everything else and its just a stuck piston or a few?

Great, just keep them in order and match them up with the caps you removed. Keep us posted.

Rings will re seat easy if you hone. Did it on bikes a lot (rings are outrageously expensive for those) and you will be able to see if there is any heavy scoring.

Like seriously, I couldn't see myself NOT buying another Tacoma down the road when I'm due, just because of the community!

Sure, it's buildable. In fact it looks good so far.
Since it's not your daily you can learn in this thing at your leisure no matter what kind of bizzaro world type crap storm this thing had.

edit: you're doing great, not directed at you. I just can't figure out what went on here. Bumper gone, sat up, fuel pump, rust.

    Nothing adds up.

This is coming from someone who's tractor was 10 ft under the Gulf of Mexico, didn't get cleaned out for a month and ran fine after blowing out everything.

Is there any way to test out other components, like the trans, so he doesn't do all this work to find out the tranny is screwed up too or something?

I towed it to my place with a strap so it went in neutral. Seems to go in and out of gear just fine
