I only drink it neat. I have whiskey stones I use to chill it a little. Definitely smooth but a spicy finish.

I’ve got a hankering for Lagavulin 16 neat or a Glenfiddich 14 on a single cube but the cupboard is dry... Except this Cazadores that found its way into my Pendleton 1910 Whisky glass. Since tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo I guess it’ll have to do. “Let’er Buck” 7E2FAF77-F455-4A5F-940A-B249C23C7510.jpg

I missed a unicorn by 15 minutes today. Hibiki 17 year old is exceptionally hard to get and sells for $300 + on line. Local Bevmo, for some reason they couldn't explain, got 2 botttles in. By the time I saw it online they were sold, $150 each.

Interesting. I'm a bourbon guy, but I do have access to this here...not 17 but is it more like bourbon or scotch?

I'd say whiskey/whisky, as it's mash bill isn't weighted towards corn like bourbon. It's very smooth. But at the price quoted in your link ($108!) I wouldn't buy it. That one is a No Age Statement whiskey and sells for around $60 here, and are not hard to get. It's the 12, 17 and 21 year bottles that are near impossible to find.

Interesting - I see that always in stock here and you can buy as much as you want. I had 2 bottles but just finished off one, so I'm down to 1. That Eagle Rare is really good, esp at that price.

I just opened a bottle of Blanton's... expecting another release in the next few weeks (I hope).

I've not had the luck of trying that yet. I've been exploring bourbons and rye but not much scotch. I may need to expand my collection in that direction. I've read good things about it...

Monkey Shoulder was my gateway into Scotch. Such a great value for a quality blend. If you want something similar go for most any Speyside to ease you into the sweeter side of Scotland's malts. After MS I picked up a Balvenie and an Aberlour and they don't disappoint.

Compass Box Great King St. - Artist's Blend

They also make a Glasgow Blend that is sherry cask aged and lightly peated, but I think the Artist's Blend will be closer in profile to the Monkey Shoulder.

Frankly, nearly everything Compass Box puts out is worth a try (other than Orangerie). You can start inexpensively with the Great King St. stuff or Oak Cross, then start graduating up to better, more complex stuff. Their Spice Tree is outstanding and about $60. Hedonism is excellent at around $100. Then you start getting to the limited release stuff....but that's another rabbit hole :D.

I'm a pretty simply guy with a small budget for alcohol.
I've become a big fan of Tullamore Dew and recently Jameson Caskmates IPA whiskey.
