Sad? I say way to go USA. I'm happy to hear we are still the world leader in exports for at least something and if that something is firearms then I personally have no problem with it. I do however have a problem with the Mexican president trying to influence policy in this country when he cannot seem to maintain control of the violence and drug cartels in his own.

And as for the average American owning these sort of weapons, well if I lived anywhere near the border with Mexico I would make sure every member of my family had one and a supply of loaded magazines and knew damn well how to use them…. Hell I wouldn’t want to leave home without mine if I lived near that border…. Screw Calderon and I say to the folks in the southwest stock up on weapons and ammo, you need to protect yourselves as it is apparent the governments of this country and Mexico are unwilling or unable to do what’s necessary to stop the violence along our borders.

That may be true but the Assault weapons ban was not a flat out ban on semi-auto weapons. It had a complicated pick and choose your features in order to qualify for the ban. However it did ban some guns by name only such as the Colt AR-15 (but not clones), AK47, Uzi.

If you want to read up on it, this article looks pretty accurate to me:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Assault_Weapons_Ban

Alright then. We'll call it propaganda. :stirthepot:  May I suggest perhaps using the quote feature in the future if you open a post and copy/paste from a website? That way we know you didn't say it, but it came from the quoted source.

Thanks for the interesting thread subject...

No. Go back and reread my post. I was responding to Solus694 when he posted about street gangs infiltrating the U.S. Military--that makes me sad.

My apologies for not reading more carefully... I agree it is sad that these few dirtbags impugn the good reputation of our great armed services...

How about enforcing the laws and fighting the corruption first in his 3rd world country before insulting us and our constitution. If your country works so well why are so many leaving... What a douche.....

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I recall the provisions of the "ban". I actually purchased my AR (Bushmaster) during the ban. The only thing it is missing is a bayonet lug. I guess Calderon doesn't actually know what the ban entailed.

I purchased my first semi auto magazine fed rifle when I first started hearing talk of banning them in the early eighties.... If they only know what they started...

^^^^one word...hippies. To quote part of Ayn Rands philosophy, "they are trying to use our guilt as a weapon against us." The only thing we are guilty of is not securing the border after 9/11, (despite the $$ spent on security upgrades) and restricting federal and local law enforcement from doing their jobs. Chris and Packerfan, If you need a spotter, call me. I'd be more than happy to stand with you guys.

And I'm sure the administration will listen to him and do whatever he says.

How bout this, Calderon: Get your own F&*kin country straightened out first and then we MIGHT listen to what you have to say. Wait, no we won't, cuz this is America, and the last I saw, you are the MEXICAN president, not the president of the U.S. of A. No one cares about your stance on SB1070, and no one cares about your stance on guns
