OK so not to come across as an asshole here.... but if you run this trail a lot surely you have seen the sign I spoke of. If you have in fact seen the seasonal closure sign.... then WTH are you running the trail right now?

    Because everyone else is?

Only two mud spots on the entire loop - 1 was clearly meant to be a muddy little pit you could drive through and then a 3'x3' puddle. We understand the importance of keeping the trail as it's meant to be. The trail is ready for use! (positive vibes)

It's open because the FS said it is. Yes, there's a sign. However, the FS decided the trail condition was adequate to open it early. Call for yourself, please! :D

Didn’t say I ran it all the time, I said I’ve run this trail the most.... this trip makes 3 times total now. Bc I googled and saw people said the trail was open and since they actually have been there recently I took their word for it... no I don’t know what sign you speak of... trail was almost 100% dry, forest service was there, jeeps, Tacoma’s, atv’s, and Santa were all out there. Can we stop pissing in the wind now please

I don't need to now. I appreciate that you took the time to contact them before going on the trail. Thank you for letting us know.
I always check the winds direction even when I am tipsy... before I pee. ;)

The intent of my responses is to help those of us here increase our awareness if the changing times and help spread the word of respect to our trail systems. I myself used to roll right past trail signs. Now I stop at all trail heads to make to read about any changes. When I remember I call ahead to the FS to check on the status of trails especially during transition seasons.

Sorry if I sort of badgered you in this process but your responses fit the context of the subject.

The jurisdiction owning the trail lands covers when it's open. The Forest Service may open things early or late as conditions permit (and this was a 'dry' year). The status pages may not be updated perfectly in sync - the guy who goes to check the trail and open the gate isn't sitting there with a cell phone connection to update the status page when he does it. Generally blanket closures are left up even if specifically opened things are included because that covers your ass if something gets missed. Calling the district and confirming is the best and only way to make sure a trail is open (you know, unless you run into a ranger or other personnel out there).

Third party sites, like Trailsoffroad or Bushducks, are great resources and will often post dates with their info. But they aren't the regulating agency, may also lag behind, or even be ahead incorrectly. As mentioned, not all closures are gated and there are people who cut locks and open shit themselves, or bypass things. Crystal was recently discussed and according to the regs it was still under seasonal closure, but there's a Bushducks report from someone as early as 4/30 saying it was open. There's no reason to get into arguments over any of this. Make your report, cite your source, and if it's not the regulating agency be prepared for someone to mention the regs. As a community we like to follow rules and inform people so shit doesn't get closed and people wheel responsibly.

To be fair, they said they biked it.

4/30/18 - Mountain biked from Marble to the Crystal Mill. Clear all the way save for a 100 yard snow drift half a mile from the Mill that is covering the road, but well compacted and passable. Vehicles have made it through. Not sure how much farther it is open.

TW is possibly the worst place to discuss proper trail etiquette. I've been trolled on the forums for suggesting people "stay the trail."

Understandable to a point... I get on this forum for knowledge, help, parts, and things of that nature. I don’t get on here to be spoken to like a child, treated like I’m stupid, or generally treated like I’ve never done this before. I’m not married and for good reason, so don’t try to be my cyber wife and just nag the life out of me

Tw is 80% bullshitters that go crawl in parking lot, 10% actual noobs, and 10% that run trails. Half of which couldn’t get into the police academy, so they just try to be annoying af behind a keyboard
