Here's an underappreciated gem! 1999 Chevrolet C2500, 5.7L Vortec/5-speed, factory A/C delete, and only 116K miles on the clock! This truck was purchased new by the plumbing company emblazoned on the sides, and it started life as a basic long bed pickup. It was sent to an upfitter where they put on the Reading utility body. Almost 20 years later, she's still in regular service!

 

The truck was recently fitted with a JVC single-DIN head unit with CD player, USB/AUX inputs, and Bluetooth. Other than the stereo and the various vocational upfits, this Chevy is totally stock!

 

"2500HD" trucks are exempt from emissions testing in Pennsylvania whether they have a gas or a diesel engine. However, what a lot of people don't know about Chevy and GMC trucks is that there were light-duty 2500s until at least 2006. An "LD" 2500 is essentially a half-ton (1500) under the hood. 2500 "LD" trucks, at least in the GMT-400 series (1988-2000) were NOT available with the 454 big block or any diesel engine. The 350cid/5.7L V8 (producing anywhere from 210 to 255 horsepower depending on the year) was the biggest engine available. The biggest difference between the 1500s and the "light" 2500s was the axles. 2WD C1500s had a 5-lug bolt pattern, while 4WD K1500s had a 6-lug bolt pattern. All 2500s, even the "light" ones like this red plumbing truck, had 8-lug bolt patterns, regardless of whether they were 2WD or 4x4.

The suspension was also "beefier" than on the 1500s. The result was increased towing capacity without having to sacrifice ride quality (1500s generally have a smoother ride than their HD counterparts).

So, since "LD" 2500s essentially have the same emissions control systems as 1500s (HD General Motors trucks, at least the older pre-OBDII ones with 350 TBI engines, have 190hp while 1500s have 210hp; it's called "HD Emissions" in my 1993 Chevy sales brochure), they are not exempt from emissions testing in the 25 Pennsylvania counties that require emissions testing!

Really? It's already made out of that plastic stuff, so I don't need a bedliner...?

 

Bed mat is made of rubber and stops stuff from sliding around that plastic bed. Before I got the bed mat, I had to tie everything down otherwise it would slide all over the place. Now I just drop stuff in there and it stays put.

 

So it's more to keep shit from sliding around than to protect the bed...?

 

In Texas I'm guessing it had A/C...?

 

That could mean that A/C is busted or the owner just doesn't like using the A/C. I saw a 2014-2015ish Chevy Silverado LT (A/C has been standard since 2007) in town today, and it had to be almost 90 degrees, but the guy had all four windows down and I couldn't hear the compressor going under the hood.
