Hmmm. Does them being all front wheel drive affect the throttle response? Less mass to rotate plus shorter distance for power transmission.

 

And so does the corolla! Driving the wife’s Corolla I’m so jerky as I’m not used to having such a responsive throttle

 

The vehicles are in neutral so the driveline isn't a factor.

 

I really don't think that would affect revving, and in any case rear wheel drive is more efficient. I know we want to know why it wont rev like a highlander, but maybe they just matched the highlander and camry better with the engine than with our truck. Like mat has said with the Camry tune, he can just copy and paste but it would be worse than the current stock config.

 

No, just no. I had enough of the slushbox when I test drove both a DCLB (Sport?) and a DCSB SR5 back in the fall of '15. I'm agreeing with you BTW, just adding there is a difference between stopped/clutch in and any other scenario when it comes to revving.

 

1.04 91 should make you smile more, especially on the highway. My experience has been that the truck will now accelerate in 6th on hills that it would just hold on when stock. The sweet spot for that midrange power bump is most noticeable once you hit ~2500 rpm, about 70mph. It will take off from there quite nicely and continue to pull harder until the aero wall kicks in. Ironically, 5th becomes more useful because of this - if you're cruising at 60-65 and want a little more GO! when passing, 5th and that extra 500RPM is pretty much all you need in most cases. That's MY experience with MY truck. Not saying yours will be the same. Because TW. And nitpickers.

Oh and did I mention that the tune unfucks pretty much all of annoying characteristics WRT stock throttle manipulation? Yup.

Anyone else notice how sparce the convo has been since 104 dropped lol. This is a GREAT file, speaking of my experience of course. Heading up for some camping tonight with gear and persons up a pretty steep canyon grade. Curious how she handles it.

I drove a few 2011-2013 highlanders and I was shocked at the difference. I know they have a 3.5 V6, but I wasn't sure if it was the exact same engine.

However, the highlanders definitely pulled harder and had a better throttle response when compared to my MT 2017 Tacoma.

There is a big delay in the 2017 that isn't present in the Highlanders.

 

Seriously it has more to do than just the ecm programming. Check the part numbers for the rotating assembly in the different engines I am relatively certain that while they may be the same engine family that they do not have the same crankshaft, connecting rods and definitely don’t have the same flywheel. There is just more rotating mass to get moving. Having a heavy rotating assembly is good for a truck it helps the engine maintain torque. It is simply adding kinetic energy to the powertrain.

Prove me wrong then. Look up the part numbers for the crank on the 2GR-FKS for the different models. With Toyota's new global architecture I highly dought they are going to start installing different cranks on different models. By simply stating there must be a difference without actually confirming is giving up on the idea that software may or may not fix the slow throttle response of the Tacoma, auto or manual.
