What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Must be nice to be able to read trans temp. On 1995-2000 trucks the sensor light only comes on when it’s reached the high temperature threshold.

I tried programming the ATF Temp codes into my ScanGauge. It told me that the transmission fluid was -39.8 Degrees Fahrenheit.

Have a in line temp sensor and a gauge in the cab to monitor.

 

How hard is that to hookup? Would be nice to monitor transmission temp.

Thinking about adding a cooler too, I haven’t done any towing on my current A340F though. I towed my Civic home when it still had the A340E.

 

not hard at all.
i tore most of it apart today and redid it so i could mount my fan, i might be able to dig through the old owners build and find the temp sensor he found/installed.

cooler is easy.
adding a fan as easy.

on the t4r, something in the radiator fails and that allows the anti freeze to mix with the atf and fucks transmissions. so we avoid the radiator completely and use a trans cooler in its place. i noticed when i go slow, especially on inclines my temps sky rocketed. like it wasn't uncommon for me to be in the 220 range, and i hit 260 more than once last summer. i have a feeling this fluid was part of the reason, but the fan is going to relieve a lot of worry when i'm off grid

it's not exactly this, but it's basically the same thing. a T fitting with a sensor on it. Some wires. Feed em to a gauge

Yeah, it's been that way since my last truck. Works well really. But I'll be having the exhaust rebuilt next moth to eliminate that and pop it over the frame there.

Yeah my dog cornered him and i had to pull my dog out so nothing would happen, i only took a pick because i was trying to see what my dog was trying to kill this time.

 

I know the feeling.. my trucks just sitting in my garage waiting for the money to finish it..

 

If you have a pair of good welding gloves you can handle smaller ones. You feel pressure but there teeth won't cut into you.

I just stole one of the rubber inserts from the back seat of my wife's 2016 4-Runner. (yea I know my truck is filthy)

 

She never sits in the back seat, so she won't notice.
