Last night, after work, I threw on some Total Chaos Bed Stiffeners. Bed was already bent. It's not any more though. It's the beginning of preparing for my build, a long and piece by piece build.

Also had to add the TC sticker to the bed. No mod is complete without that.

Seems like they need you (the real professional here) to come in and teach them their jobs ASAP, but you shouldn't have to do that at all.
Seems like you may need to go above their heads to get this problem solved, no customer should be treated the way your are being treated so a quick note to top brass might put the fire under their asses that they need. My dealership treats customers like they are afraid of anything going wrong and send me messages asking about my experience all the time including surveys about the dealership and my satisfaction or dissatisfaction. But all Toyotas and Lexus out here in Hawai'i fall under Servco, so maybe they have stricter standards than the dealership you're dealing with.
Maybe you could also tell them that you are completely unsatisfied with the dealership you're currently dealing with and request it to be sent to a dealership with better reviews or that other TW members recommend.
I hope what I have said is helpful to you, such a shame you're having to go through this, Katie.
Hoping that this can be resolved soon for you, especially with how much advertising you do for them with your love of your Taco on here and most likely other forms of social media, you are much more important to them than the average customer since they have a lot to lose from upsetting you and losing you as a customer.

I hope you are able to still enjoy this Memorial Day weekend even with this mess going on, I'm sure it is having a pretty unfortunate opportunity cost on you this weekend since you cannot enjoy your Tacoma.

Sorry for it being so long. Yeah. They towed it to my local dealership that is just 15 minutes away. I’ve gone over there in person twice. The first time to explain all of the accessories. Guy tried to tell me that I tapped my reverse lights into my taillights “like most people do”. I was like umm no I did not do that. Haha. They are ran all the way up to the front a directly connected to my SwitchPro. Even their technician and survice rep stated exactly what you just said. Haha. “It’s like we need you here with us 24/7 to be able to tell us exactly what is what”. I was thinking to myself at that moment it’s not that hard. Most of my wiring is all connected to my SwitchPro. So disconnect my SwitchPro from the Battery and there you go. My truck is pretty much back to OEM.

I feel for you. God only knows what you will have to do to connect all your stuff back up when they do get the issue resolved. I had to go through Corporate for a little stinking grease smear on my driver door. And they tried to blame that on my added window visors. I have seen these horror stories from all manufacturers. They will do anything in their power to get out of warranty work. That is why I do not make any major changes while my vehicles are under warranty. Something as simple as a coil spring change, or adding HID's can threaten your warranty. They are trained that anything not from the Toyota plant is suspect. People always question why I drive hundreds of miles to purchase new vehicles. First is price and second is my local dealers suck. I buy the best deal because I only deal with dealers for warranty repairs. It is because most dealers have poorly trained robots for technicians. I nearly knocked the teeth out of my local dealers Expert Technician the first time he explained that my 5 issues were impossible to be factory defects. Talked to me like I was a 90 year old woman who was clueless about cars. Fortunately I held back, made several videos, forwarded them to Corporate and the dealer, and then got the results I expected. I took 3 years of auto-tech in high school, went to trade school for advanced auto repair and worked at a dealer in the 1970's. Changed careers but have worked on cars the past 40+ years. Yes I know something about cars. I think I know a helluva lot more that these Expert Technicians. I will get my wife to add you to the prayer list this week. You will need some help getting through this.
I would try to get actual letters from your aftermarket vendors stating that your taps, etc have no effect on the ECU or factory wiring. This may be useful ammunition if, or when, you go to arbitration with Toyota.
I think you know that you have the support of this community and we all hope this works out for you. I think others should be aware of what to expect from Toyota when dealing with warranty after making such mods. On a side note I think you are the first person I ever knew that missed New Jersey. Yeah. I may need to get actual letters. I did screen shot and send the conversation to the Director of Toyota. Since I have done that, they have moved on trying to blame it on something else. Problem is, my wiring and all of my lights were working perfectly even the day it got towed into Toyota. The first time I went over to the dealership after my truck got delivered, they were complimenting me about everything. This being the best Tacoma by far they’ve seen, the wiring looks professionally done and so clean, the technician complimented my Redline Tuning Hood QuickLifts (said he was getting ready to have to hold it up and it just went up. It was so nice. I said thank you. Yeah it should come Stock with those), I received compliments on all of my LED lights under the truck and how it’s pretty cool that when I open my door that the Side LEDs light up the ground, the spare tire being stored in the bed of the truck like I have it, etc. My automatic starter was working just fine. Never have had one issue with it. So everything they keep pointing out, i have never had any issue with and were working just fine when my truck got towed to the Dealership.

My last truck was bought like that.....dealership had a spot on the assembly line and configured my truck exactly as I wanted it....the window sticker had my name on it....sorta cool getting something exactly as you want it. Made the wait really fun. Loved that truck and it served me well as a daily driver for 11 years....until the day I decided to finally get a Taco. Hoping this one sticks around a long time, too. Daily driver/hunt&fish truck.

Similar experiences here, too. I tend to be more aggressive on the commute TO work....18.5mpg normally. 23 miles (1/2 70mph interstate). The drives home from work generally find me poking along and relaxing to some tunes and not rushing and then I'll hit over 20mpg. I've bolted on some mall-crawling slyders and heavy e-rated mud tires 265/75r16, too. No complaints.

Damn, Katie.....very sorry to hear about your troubles.

All of the mods you've shown here look super clean and nicely done. They should marvel at how nicely your truck has been enhanced over stock.

I hope they get this worked out to your benefit.

Some of the dealership add-on's get farmed out by local shops here. Some of these shops are staffed with kids who can't put their cellphones down long enough to quit snap chatting and FOCUS on the work before them. Hopefully, they can nail things down and find the cause to be something other than the dealership add-on at NJ dealer or any of your upgrades.

You've taken care at every turn to ENHANCE your trucks capability.....not to diminish it. Hopefully the dipshits will see this.

Now you know if you go ahead and install them.....the fukktards at your new dealership will claim they made the parking brake fail.....or the tailgate latch fail.....or some such bullcrap.

I had those on my ‘06 tacoma when I lived in Massachusetts. Absolutely loved them. Just make sure you get Super Bright Bulbs because the night vision is definitely dimmed quite a bit. Looks nice

Looks great! Anyone that has made the mod of the locking gas cap find a good one yet. I really want to do this mod but the couple people I’ve seen that have done this mod, wouldn’t recommend the cap they purchased. Looking for a recommended locking gas cap that will also fit in the Gasshole.

What have I done today....argue with my Toyota Dealership! I absolutely miss my Toyota Dealership in Hackensack, NJ where I purchased my truck. I never had any issues with them whatsoever. I remember taking my truck in for all the TSBs that came out when I first purchased my truck and they didn’t even ask any questions. Took my key and updated my truck. Anything I had questions or concerns about, they took care of it. By far the best Toyota Dealership I have ever dealt with. I miss them.

Since I moved back home to Oregon, I take my truck now to the Dick Hannah Toyota Dealership in Kelso, WA. By far the worst experience I’ve had so far. If you don’t want to read a long write up, skip to the next. However, looking for some advice so please bare with me and my current situation.

On Wednesday, May 9th I went to take my truck to work in the morning. Started it up and went to pull it out of the driveway. Felt the gear shift/transmission make this clunk sound or whatever it was. It’s hard to describe but really felt like the gear shifter just dropped out. It was extremely weird. Immediately put it back in park. Noticed at that point that my Entune System shut off and wouldn’t come on, my gear shifter LED Light that lights up the letters (ie P, R, N, D, etc) wasn’t working, and most importantly when I tried to put it back into gear whether it be R or D, it wasn’t registering the gear. There would be absolutely nothing and then after a bit it would jerk into gear making a horrible sound. I ended up putting it back in park and leaving it in my driveway. Got off work and called my cousin who has been a mechanic himself for like 20+ years to come take a look at it. Didn’t take him long before he stated there is something really wrong and since it is under warranty to call Toyota and get it over there for them to look at it so they can fix it.

Called Toyota on Thursday, May 10th and informed them about the situation with my transmission. They got me hooked up without Toyota Care and had it towed over to them the next morning.

Friday, May 11th, my Truck got picked up

I’ve been going back and forth with them for the past two weeks. Toyota is really reaching for a reason why my warranty won’t cover whatever is going on with my transmission.

First they tried to tell me that the tech test drove my truck and he didn’t find anything wrong with the transmission. I laughed and told him to drive it again. The gears aren’t even registering. You already told me that when the tow truck guy dropped it off he mentioned to you guys about the shifting issues he had as well with it. There is something wrong so have your guy look at it again.

Received a call a little later, this time they tried to blame it on my SwitchPro/BlueSea System I have for all of my accessories in my Engine Bay. Although, when they called me the first time they asked me what shop did I use to get all of my wiring done for my accessories. I said I did all of the wiring, which shocked the hell out of them. The guy was like wow. Well then that totally changes everything. We were going to say that because it’s aftermarket, whoever did your wiring would be responsible and warranty will not cover it bc they probably hardwired it to the wrong location and that’s why you are having issues. Then they would be responsible. However, since you wired it that changes that. I was like seriously. The guy continued to praise me for my wiring and stated multiple times how impressed they were bc it looks like such a professional job. I was like, thank you, I think.

Toyota is really reaching for a reason as to why my warranty won’t cover whatever is going on with my transmission. Then they tried to blame it on my SwitchPro/BlueSea System I have for all of my accessories in my Engine Bay. So I reached out to SwitchPro (@switch-pros) and they sent me documentation that their system does not harm the computer because it doesn’t even interface with any of the factory electrical system. They also mentioned that the warranty is not voided through toyota because again you don’t alter any factory equipment. That the SwitchPro System is a stand-alone System that is intended to work with aftermarket accessories. Which is exactly what I told Toyota right when they started to blame it on my electric system.

Toyota then came back with saying well there are taps everywhere under the dash connected to the BCM and I tapped into my reverse lights/highbeams/dome. I said yes they are all add-a-fuses which again is not the reason the transmission is acting out. I asked him if he even knew what the add-a-Fuses run connect to. He was silent. I said they connect to my CH4x4 Switches. One lights the switch up with my Dash Lights, One provides constant power, one is to my Seat Heaters so that they are not able to turn on unless the truck is on, and my last one is for my dome light and it’s harness for protection so there’s no backfeed. So I reached out to SwitchPro again regarding the trigger wires and tapping into the reverse lights/highbeams/dome being the issue like Toyota was claiming. They sent me documentation again that there is no issues with my vehicles computers. Their system doesn’t interface with them and simply tapping onto a wire for a signal will not void your warrant. Which again, is exactly what I said to Toyota at the beginning. SwitchPro has been absolutely amazing with their customer service.

Following that, I received a call from Toyota saying how the tech spent three hours on my truck unplugging the add-a-Fuses (which mind you is the only thing I have authorized so far) which couldn’t take more than a minutes or two. That the bill is already up to $400 and something. I was like there is absolutely no way and I am not paying for that. The only thing I have authorized is the tech pulling out the Add-a-Fuses which I offered to do myself when I was there in person. He continued to tell me well he spent 3 hours taking apart the dash and checking the fuses (which I am the one that even had to ask him if he’s checked fuses/relays in the first place), and doing some tests. I immediately stopped him and said well then that is not on me. That is on Toyota and the warranty that is covering this. He stated how there are Seat Heaters he had to disconnect as well. I asked why because they are not connected to any factory wiring whatsoever. He again told me that is not true and he has pictures. I told him if you are talking about the main power supply it is connected directly to the Battery positive and negative terminal. The only thing connected to anything else is again for the switch to come on with the dash lights and for the switch to not be able to be turned on unless the truck is on for safety. So again, nothing needed to be disconnected there. He didn’t know what to say after that and so I did not receive a response.

So yesterday, Toyota came back and said there is something that is causing a fuse to blow that the shift sensor needs. That is why my trans is acting like it is. It’s something up under the dash area. They continued to say that there were two engineers that looked over my truck and there are a lot more wires tapped than what I originally stated and that they need it to go back to OEM so they can continue. The Director of Service at Toyota then mentioned to me that they need 10 hours authorized by me for them to continue. I said well the problem isn’t from me so the warranty should pay for all of this. He came back to me and said that both their engineers disagree. I asked what all needs to be disconnected and stated that I will disconnect everything that I personally installed. Just tell me when I can do that and that will get disconnected. The Director ignored that statement and still hasn’t told me when I can come by to disconnect my accessories. Probably because he knows it has nothing to do with it and I already disconnected it the very first day. There’s not much that has to be disconnected since I have most of my accessories connected to my SwitchPro/BlueSea System. I continued to tell him that the only things I tapped into we have already discussed. He tried telling me that simply wasn’t true again. That they found a aftermarket remote starter that was installed and tapped into wires under the dash. I laughed and said the remote start was installed by Toyota at the dealership when I purchased it as part of my purchase from the dealership. I informed them that they could contact the Toyota dealership that is located in Hackensack, NJ and they will verify that it was part of when I purchased it and they installed it at the dealership. The automatic starter was done 100% by them. It should be under warranty with Toyota as part of my purchase. That it wasn’t aftermarket at all.

Today, Friday May 25th, Toyota messaged me this morning and told me that the remote start is actually not factory. They installed an aftermarket unit so no Toyota warranty applies. I replied back to him and said, “well like I said, I don’t know what they did. That was part of my purchase when I purchased my truck from Toyota. By any means, there is nothing wrong with my automatic starter so nothing should need to be done to it. However, it was purchased, installed, and done within my purchase of the truck from the factory so everything that was done for that install is covered by Toyota. I had nothing to do with any of that other than purchasing my truck from Toyota”. I haven’t received a response back since I sent that last message to the Director of Toyota.

So again, I apologize for such a long post, but it’s been hell and a bunch of bullshit if you ask me!!!! They are searching extremely hard for something they can blame it on so that the warranty doesn’t have to cover whatever is going on with my transmission. I’m getting beyond pissed off. I’m not really sure what the next step is. I kind of want to call headquarters but I don’t know if that will do anything.

Kind of hard for me to lie about this stuff with this Cavalry Blue vehicle out here sticking out like a sore thumb, so others that have seen me will vouch for me.

You have been a great asset to this forum and I enjoy your post and your willingness to help others. Don't let others make you feel differently. Keep being yourself. If they are jealous of your PRO that's their problem. Maybe they should have bought one themselves. I think it's great that you are embracing the culture where you live. That's the right thing to do IMHO. I'm sure the locals appreciate it. My family and I went to Oahu and Maui years ago and I can see why you would support them. I hope you and your family stay safe with everything going on out there.
