Mine is a jdm part sourced from the Toyota frs I believe. I'm 90% sure it's backlighting is green vs blue like the original. Still sun light out now, I'll snap a pic when it gets dark. Another member here did completely disassemble each unit and swap the red button over to the original base unit for blue lighting but that's a little more involved than I'm willing to go just yet.

gone is the janky universal cb mount on my bed basket, replaced with a Caliraised tailgate mount. 20180526_125002.jpg
I ran the wire thru a grommet underneath the center of the rear seats (a tad of silicone to keep it waterproof), along the frame under the bed and up behind the drivers side plastic bit. It clears drivethru's now!
Also my black handles and blackout interior trim came in. project for another day.

Finally installed my Stainless Steel Redline Tuning Hood Struts I bought on the group buy. Install was straight forward but as usual, not as easy for me as most.......Overall I have solid strut mounts and didn't put any dimples or holes in the hood. Now the hood lifts on it's own. Two hands on the hood help to secure it closed.

Obviously before with the OEM Hood support in place.

    20180525_191805.jpg

I bought the Harbor Freight Heavy Duty, two hand Lever action rivet gun for this job and for anyone that uses less, I have mad respect. Those 3/16" steel rivets were the meanest I have ever used. They were no match for the gun I bought though ($20 ).

Because this is a seriously long rivet gun The hood with the OEM support might have been a little tight. I didn't take any chances. I used a cargo bar to raise the hood to the limit. Yes, there is a limit.

    20180526_164112.jpg

Here's a shot of where I braced the bar inside the engine bay. This was very secure and no way was anything slipping the way I had it positioned.

    20180526_164336.jpg

This will give you an idea of how much extra height I attained by lifting the hood to the max open position. As a reference, with the OEM support the struts would be nearly in position at the fender locations. Here you can see it is more that 6" away. I removed the cargo bar and put the OEM hood support in place to make the final connection of the hood struts.

    20180526_173651.jpg

Once the new hood struts were in place there was no more need for this thing which can get in the way so out with it!

    20180526_174247.jpg

    The finished project.

    20180526_174623.jpg

Is it a frivolous mod? Not for me. To me these things should be standard on the Tacoma. I paid $109.91 shipped to my door for the Elite version of the struts. Black was less and would have worked too but it was a group buy discount so.... Add the tool $20.00, add some new drill bits (yes, I have drill bits but I wanted to be sure I had new, sharp bits) $4.00, so all in all, $135. which is what the struts cost regular price, but I also now have some extra tools I can use for other projects.

I totally agree. Especially the heavier scooped hood like ours. They should have been standard. Just remember the money that Toyota saved went into our rear steel bumper so "THANK YOU TOYOTA".

Now this didn't happen today, and I know that throws the entire psyche of the thread off but it did happen yesterday so not too far off from today. The Big Brown Santa delivered these!! It's about to get real bright up in here!!!

    20180525_192407.jpg

Auxbeam 42" Curved 5D 240w light bar w/wiring harness (includes fuse, relay, switch), Auxbeam 32" Straight 5D 180w light bar w/wiring harness (same as the 42").

I'm waiting for some brackets that attach to the OEM roof rack for the 42" and some behind the grill brackets for the 32". I think I might look at the NFab light bar bumper bar though because this thing is dead sexy and the bar is higher than the opening is and I'm afraid some of the light will be wasted. Plus I think both exposed will look better than one exposed and one hidden.

The curvature of the roof mounted bar follows the curvature of the windshield at the roof perfectly.

Here's a pic showing the curvature.

    20180525_192429.jpg

Once I get everything mounted and operational I will be doing an in-depth review. I'm going to take the truck off road somewhere where it is wide open so we can see how much light is generated by these bad boys! Stay tuned.

Yea, no doubt Steve. When I saw them on the forum and then ultimately in person on @pdenajim 's truck I was sold. They do lift the hood on their own which is amazing considering how heavy, as you say, this hood really is.

Put together my own raptor light kit for about $20. It has proven very difficult to get a good photograph of. 9BE79680-1E06-424F-A534-30C0D8A2402A.jpg

Admitably such a cheesy thing to waste money on but it's been in my Amazon cart for months and I had a moment of 'ahh f-it why not'

I can’t wait to get that dash kit. Just don’t have the extra money right now to purchase them and who knows what is going to happen at the dealership. I look forward to it tho. Did you get the full or basic package? I don’t remember their actual terms. I can’t see myself installing the full kit but I feel like their are some pieces on the full set that I would like to have that aren’t on the basic. Curious what all you did
