Re: 2017 Tacoma SR 2-door Access Cab, 2.7L four cylinder; 6-sp auto trans.

I know this switch allows you to access more power, but HOW?
Timing advancement; fuel injection pressures; gear lockouts...? Is it a secret?:spy:

Lastly, any harm in simply leaving it on?

ECT = Electronically Controlled Transmission. It's shift point mapping that keeps transmission in lower gear, for longer than the normal map. No harm to leave it on all the time. There is a small hardware mod available to have it on by default.

Vehicles no longer use cables for the throttle. The computer takes a input from the gas pedal and determines how quickly it opens and closes the throttle based on programming. Pushing ECT will allow the transmission to hold gears longer and the throttle to be more responsive. This is also how some vehicles will have a ECO mode and my wife’s Highlander has a snow button.

i think there is some unknown answers, to me it seems to do more than just make the tranny shift different. personally i think it locks out the atkinson cycle but that is just my thought. i do know it has and effect on the feel on the gas pedal seems a lighter touch is needed to accelerate.
you can't just leave it on have to push the button every time you start the truck. i added the ECT mod "on at startup" and drive with it on 100% of the time. this mod was a game changer for me as far as liking the truck or not.

Yep, leave it on. I don't have the mod, but when it goes in gear my hand goes to the button. I only take it off when going over 60 on a highway. Always get 18-20+ MPG.

I only drive with it on if I don’t care about MPG. I haven’t seen that Mod to have it on at startup. I’ll have to look into that!

Adjusted the throttle sensitivity and moved the shift points higher.

What is the name/price/location of this mod?

While we are on the subject, are there any hand held performance controllers (i.e. Superchips, etc) that "plug into" the on-board computer to add performance packages and/or specific functions (shift points, engine timing, bla, bla, bla)? I know it is just a 4-banger, but what ever I can get without hurting it!

How exactly is a rainbow made? How exactly does a sun set? How exactly does a posi-trac rear-end on a Plymouth work? How exactly does the ect power button work? It just does.

recently started driving this on and noticed that it is providing smoother power delivery and more responsive throttle feedback. Might actually look into doing this mod.

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree. I’ve mentioned that a few times in past threads. The Taco launches very nicely at stop lights/signs, and gets moving extremely nicely(if there is such a thing!) I’ve actually stopped using ECT in tight traffic as I noticed I’m off the pedal too quickly and too often. I’m sure in that scenario it kills MPG’s.

The manual states ECT POWER. The mapping probably changes with more air/fuel ratio(s) when in ECT MODE?

This system is EXTREMELY sensitive. I figured there had to be a delay of some kind. No way. I found out the sweet way.

The other day I was driving home from work, when during that time, there was a moment where I ever so slightly pressed on the gas pedal and immediately backed off the pedal as I decided on not changing lanes. The motor sounded and felt like it only fired off 10-15 revolutions. I never would have figured a non cabled throttle could be so super sensitive and accurate (I know for safety reasons it has to be, but damn!). I’ll have to do some reading on it as now I’m rather interested in knowing how it works. I would t be surprised if it came from racing. Cool frijoles.
