    Take I-40 west out of Asheville and before that last rest stop that is on the opposite side of the highway you veer off the highway just past a guard rail.

    It's not an actual exit. You literally turn off the highway onto a broken up road that turns into the trail. I'm having a tough time narrowing it down on Google Maps, though.

    For the most part. We went with @SC2SC and pretty sure we got off Hurricane Creek onto another road that would have been sketchy for 2wd.
