3rd Gen. JBL Stock Stereo Amplifier/Speaker Upgrade Assistance

Hello everyone, has anyone found a way to upgrade speakers and amplifiers for their Entune JBL system? I want to use the stock head unit and keep all the bells and whistles, but put new door speakers, a new subwoofer, and amplification. Has anyone had success in doing this? If so how?

Sucks that the sound systems in these trucks are so sub-par that there is an actual need for this but good for them I guess.

 

I have attempted to tackle this and ended up spending A LOT of money to try and make it work. The head unit/amp has a custom eq for the stock set up. Changing the speakers and/or amplifying the signal exaggerates the eq in a undesirable way.

The sub is it's own beast. The stock system has a dynamic eq that dims the signal when it may damage the sub. If you try to amplify this, it will still dim signal. Your only option here is not turning your radio past the point that the signal changes.

Some things you will need to complete this project are an equalizer, line out convertor, and lots of taping/moving of factory wiring.

I ended up pulling the factory radio and wish I did it in the first place. Don't be stupid like me and do it right the first time.

 

What radio did you go with? Did you have problems with intergrating things like the backup cam, steering wheel controls and hands free?

 

Its a Kenwood Dnx893s. I don't use hands free so couldn't say. Backup cam is a little off center looking and the factory lines didn't go away for some reason. The radio has dynamic lines that I use over the factory lines. Steering wheel controls work and are customizable. Had to use the radios provided mic for Bluetooth calling. There was some testing to do as the Idatalink install instructions were missing some info.

Other than that, it somehow got some obd2 data and I can view afr, rpm, and some other things. Kinda cool and didn't expect it!

Well this is disappointing. I just got an '18 premium tech taco after having to give back my '17. I was hoping the amp, kicker speakers and taco tunes harness would just plug & play in the new taco from the old one.

 

The expensive JBL system is a shitshow for those expecting much better than stock sound..then finding out how much it can cost to upgrade/replace things..on top of what you already paid for the JBL system..anyone know how much the JBL was, for those who bought new? I think it was a package deal including the motorized sunroof?
