Still only 6/10 of an inch of rain since the first week of April. Supposed to be in the upper 90’s all week and no rain. Most of the corn will be gone by the end of the week.

 

Not good . It rained here today .......again . Mowing the lawn every 3 days .

 

Well that's no damn good! 6/10 doesn't even get the dust down.

 

Here in the Midwest we worry about frost until May 15. But this year we went straight from winter to summer.

 

Same. Had upper 90's for 3 days straight. High Humidity too. Lightning had all the water bombers in the air & Hotel Rooms are fillin' up quick from the Folks gettin' out.

 

Wow....we're still kinda wet here. About .3" today.

 

Morning

 

Gonna be some yelling and screaming in the morning when my full crew shows up.

1 left 3 hours early Saturday while I had my only day off....I got bombarded with phone calls and messages (That I was out of phone range for....)

Another called in sick last night.....Drunk yes....Sick? Maybe as drunk as he was then.

Another did a no show/no call this morning. I'm here (by myself) doing their job(s)

Oldest person on the staff. Longest tenured employee....And I show up to work. Young bucks can't seem to drag ass in here. (Pays double time today...+ holiday pay, so THREE times normal pay rate)

Then they whine about not making enough money to survive on...

This time tomorrow I may be hiring 3 NEW employees. (Starts @ $16.50 an hour. One position pays $26.75 hr)

I'm pissed. (AGAIN)

Please remember....you NEVER say "happy Memorial Day" to anyone. This is a somber day of reflection.

 

So is "thank you for your service" the appropriate thing to say? Serious question and not joking around for once.

 

No, that's for Veteran's Day. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and reflection for those who paid the ultimate price

Bottom line....it's a day for those who died in combat. So there's really nothing to say to anyone.

On the other hand....Veteran's Day is a day of thanks for ALL Vets, past and present. Find as many Vets as you can and shake their hand and say thank you for your service, buy them lunch, pay for their tank of gas, etc.

And if they have their spouse or family with them....then thank them for the sacrifices they've made as well. Service sacrifices can be tough on them too.

A tradition of mine; I'll leave work shortly, and go stand at attention while a VFW post does presentation of colors and blows TAPS at a National War Monument in my home town.
