As someone else said check out the northern va dealers. Priority Toyota in Springfield has 50-60 Tacomas on their lot. The priority auto group is also fairly large. There is a dealership in Chesapeake which would be much closer for you and they are willing to source from other dealers. That’s what they did for me.

Good luck, hope you find what you want.

Apparently you didn't really grasp his reason for even wanting a Tacoma, and specifically for a long bed. If he were to follow your plan, he'd be better off keeping what he has.

Check with Checkered Flag Toyota in Virginia Beach, I ordered a DCLB OR from them 2 years ago before the longbeds were in most of the dealerships.

$500 deposit and 2 months later I was driving the exact truck I wanted.

Priority wanted $1000 down and were going to take longer than Checkered Flag.

I generally agree with that. An exception might be if they had something on the lot that met your requirements at the right price.

But I will never order thru them again. They are horrid.

By all means getting a new tacoma is always the right answer to any question,, but have you thought about getting a trailer for your kayak?

Before I found my tacoma answer I was always intrigued by the Malone kayak trailers.

Just asking out of curiosity but what is the issue with SET? I ordered my 2015 from Pensacola in 2015 back when I lived in Florida and it was probably the best car buying experience I have ever had. No issues no gimmicks.

I feel your pain!! My 'unicorn build' (different from yours) was a hell to find!! Had to do a nationwide search, and only found four. Three of the dealers were absolute pricks!! I even looked into ordering, and my local dealership even made that impossible. Good luck!!

Oh, and I ended up buying from a SE dealership. Excellent price, with none of the BS I got from the others. Am now wondering why everyone bitches about SE Toyota!! I went thru Serra Toyota, Decatur, Alabama.

SE Toyota is the distribution network for the Southeast USA. The dealerships are at their mercy, and less willing to work with you or allow you to order configurations as a result.

SE Toyota also likes to add tons of stupid options from the factory to up the sticker sheet. For example, my DCLB SR5 had a MSRP of $38,736. That's insane for an SR5. I bought it for $34k including tax and all fees.

Trucks are commodities. Go test drive a configuration you like, and email every local dealership with a like configuration until you find the best deal. They're a LOT less flexible in-person, especially if you are younger.

Edit: custom-ordered configs will ALWAYS be more expensive. If you're ordering your truck instead of finding one on a lot with your desired config, expect to pay close to MSRP...

Yeah I did all he would have to buy is
https://www.austinkayak.com/products/15163/Boonedox-T-Bone-Bed-Extender.html I think a prinsu roof rack just look really good.
There have been several kayak threads on this so if he did the research, as much as he is doing with trying to buy a long bed he would make a better decision than to buy that automatic everyone is always complaining about. He would save $1400 getting the MT by not getting crawl control, so he could reinvest that right back into that product or countless other like it and still have saved $1200 and not complain on the forum how he hates his automatic transmission.
To each their own. But I’m trying to save this man time not complaining and money for more gas or mods.

    Still missed it.

The point of the long bed is to NOT have to lift it on a roof rack.

I use a bed extender with a long bed, and my 15' yaks still have a lot of overhang. It's not an issue, but I really wouldn't want to work a short bed.

Email any and every dealership you are willing to go to. Tell them what you want and they can order if needed, but you will not except any thing. It what you want. Also let them k ow you have emailed x number of dealerships, and the first one willing to order the exact truck you want at a reasonable (invoice) price gets your deposit.

I ordered my truck and ended up at just under invoice.
