Anyone offering or considering setting up a group buy for OEM "Genuine Tacoma" Roof Racks?

Best purchase I made after I got my 2013. I use the rack all the time.

Hoping that a Toyota dealer, parts supplier or someone with the time and desire will run with it.
I might throw a few inquiries out there myself when I can find the time. I encourage others to do the same.

Save the trouble and buy an aftermarket rack. They cost more but have far better quality, fitment and flexibility for usage.

Front Runner, Prinsu and Baja Rack are good choices. They’re all a little different so just check them out and see what you like or would work best for you.

$900 for a Front Runner, $625 for the Prinsu (that personally I don't care for) Rack and while I haven't yet checked the price for the Baja I'm sure the price is up there as well. If money were no object maybe, unfortunately it is. My pockets just aren't that deep!

I'd buy a knock off if I knew they were of the same quality. Problem is I just don't know.

Must buy $600+ heavy-duty aftermarket rack to mount 5lbs Rotopax and Maxtrax. Must not simply put in truck bed.

With modification almost anything is possible.
My HiLift weighs more than 5 lbs, so does the combined weight of my shovel and axe. They just need to be mounted properly.
I guess I just don't understand your logic.
That's like saying you can't put saddle bags on a horse.

Hah. I was being sarcastic. I see the OEM rack as being way more practical than a Prisnu. This is Tacomworld though... nothing is practical here.

Neither is spending almost as much on mods as 1/2 the price of another Tacoma.
But it sure is fun! :anonymous:

I don’t see how it could be more practical. It has two fixed bars that are curved as opposed to a flexible number of flat bars that incorporate t-slots to mount any accessory you want in just about any place on the rack. I had the OEM rack and it can’t compare to an aftermarket for utility.

I guess the only time I would ever use the roof rack is to transport my kayak or bike when the bed is full. The OEM crossbars can stow away when not needed.

Don't get me wrong, aftermarket racks look amazing. But do you really need to mount all that stuff up high when you have a bed? I see aftermarket racks more useful for the 4runner than Tacoma. Am I not understanding something?

For two to three times the price or more
Same thought here. And again there's the price point between the two.
It's all in what you like and what you can afford.

I have a tacoma, long bed on top of that, and currently building a rack... Few reasons.
1- I have a hi lift that takes about 8" of length (in a case) and I find it's taking up needed space many times. same for my 1 or 5 gallon gas tank it'S always in the way.
2- All my recovery gear is under and behind the rear seats, which has three kids's seat attached, meaning it takes a LOT of work to get stuff out of there (happened a few weeks ago).
3- My bed has a topper on it, reducing significantly how much crap I can haul, I want it as empty as possible and put as much gear in (next trip is 3 weeks with 3 kids, we are carrying two coolers and gear (no tent). Yes I could likely put all inside, but then I'D have to tetris it in/out every time I want to grab something.
40 I can now carry 16 feet lumber on the rack, before I would stop at 12 because 16 was way too long

I'l not a necessity but more of a convenience.
