I figured out the end all be all fix for the auto trans shifting complaints.

I’ll tow with the manual any day over the auto. It pulls so much better.

 

Not actually. Auto is better for heavier loads and precarious situations.
I wouldnt go to max load on that clutch for fear of burning it out. Be careful.

My 5.7 Tundra has auto too. All F150s do too. Clear to me.

Manual has better gear ratios for towing, and no worries of overheating. For towing the manual wins everytime.

 

No overheat on auto. I checked it at 95 degrees 6k load. Normal, no difference.

I'm sorry, but the prevalence of any technology is not proof it's better. Americans are lazy fucks who like to do 14 different things while driving. The fact our vehicles almost all have automatics is not a reason that the automatic is better when the rest of the world prefers standard transmissions. Almost anywhere else that you find a real work truck, it will be manual. Hell, even large trucks don't use the same type of automatic that a light truck does because they can't handle the heat with that much of a load.

That article is clickbait opinion bullshit with zero actual sources. An auto or manual are both 100% capable of exactly what they're designed to do and either is significantly better than what a little Tacoma is capable of.

If you don't want the manual, that's fine, but that doesn't mean you're right and that doesn't mean the automatic is better just because you think so lowly of the manual. It's a fucking preference any way you look at it and some like the control that no automatic with a fluid interface will ever offer.

 

In your case it would be one hand on the wheel, and the other flipping all your doohickey light switches . Your splitting your time between the girl and the switches, like MT's with the girl and the shifter .

 

If you burn up the clutch that’s because you don’t know how to drive. I’ve towed extensively with both, the gearing in the manual is significantly better suited for towing in the third gen trucks. In some cases yes an auto may be better / easier for some people but I’ve towed off road in addition to up and down steep mountain grades. No issues here.

Lots of vehicles have autos due to demand not because it’s better for everything.

My question: Should you really be towing anything with those credentials?

 

I'm pretty good at this as well (having learned to drive on a farm at age 10 or so)

My one issue: I've spilled hot coffee on my crotch multiple times while doing the crossover shift. I know, it's embarrassing. I just can't seem to remember not to let the cup tip (especially when it's my first cup of coffee )

I don't have any complaints about the MT but I do have complaints about the creaky clutch pedal when its very warm out

 

Another thing to consider, in the last two years I fractured my right elbow and left foot in two separate mountain biking accidents. During the recovery my MT car sat but I was still able to drive myself to work and remain mobile with the AT truck.

 

Shit, do I have that to look forward to again? My 2007 started creaking around 30k when i lived in the desert and I was able to take care of it by greasing the beginning of each summer.

 

Did you read my post that I monitor tranny temps ?? Seems not.
Repeat. Pulled 6k load last year level terrain in 95 degree temperature, 2 hours, with NO increase in tranny temp compared to no load, numbnuts.
