3rd Gen 2016+ Tacoma Tailgate Lock

Got mine yesterday, installed it in about 10 minutes. Seems solid, and definitely gives me that extra piece of mind. Highly recommend to anyone who is on the fence.

also in the pic is my new fob from @AJT DESIGN it's a small upgrade, but man do I love it!

 

Finally ordered one!

 

Had to upgrade electrical to stepdown the voltage from 243 to 210. Machine is happy now so I am making parts again.

Once I fill the backordered locks, I will have stock available. So Tuesday is can ship.

Just placed an order for a black one.

 

Ordered mine on Wed of last week. Got it two days later on Friday. Had a quick email exchange with them due to the "checkout" was a little screwy, which they fixed within 10 mins of my email in the morning.

Installed it today, took about 5 mins. You'll spend more time looking at directions versus actually doing the install. You don't have to remove all the screws and you don't have to loosen all the others. Only the ones near the area of install. Only "issue" I had was trying to seat the tailgate skin back down. Was a little difficult. Had to close the tailgate and then the skin snapped in place.

Product quality seems good. Am happy with the purchase.

 

I already have the lock. How can I get the plug?

 

Such a brilliant idea. My friends didn't believe me when I told them tailgate thefts were a real thing.

 

It took some time to figure it out being I do not own a 2016+ but studying the situation and making a design was fun. I just took forever. haha

Never realized how bad of a problem it is. Talking to customers who have already had their tailgate stolen makes me feel bad for them, but It is good to be a part of their solution. I see trucks daily missing their tailgate here in Torrance.

Done and done. It took me a whole 10 mins to install it from start to finish.

 

I ordered red- dont really like the color as an accessory for my white taco, but maybe a hack will see it before trying to cut the camera cable off first.

Yeah, I can see it now- they notice the bright red lock and get mad that I put it there and do something else to the truck, but at least they don’t cut the camera cable!

I have a question. If I need to remove my tailgate for any reason would I need to reverse the install process by removing the screws on the tailgate panel and then the lock itself? Does this mean I would need to carry the correct torx bit in my truck all the time if I need the tailgate removed?

Update: scleaf answered my question. Yes, the only way to remove your tailgate with this installed is to uninstall the lock. FYI. this is an awesome product that is well built.
