Go test drive a Honda Ridgeline. Will have that car like ride you're used to, and the utility of a truck.

The Chevy Colorados ride a little better too.

 

I have almost 30k on my 2016 sr with 265s r17 and it’s still harsh like the first day...

 

Pretty much my hit list, other than the roof top tent.

Good for you. Many come back whining about various things that a test drive would have revealed. At least you took a practical approach.

Noticed gas prices lately? You might reconsider. Or at least change your timing. It won't be long till the demand for your used Prius will be much higher (more money) and the demand for trucks as a whole will fall (better pricing). We Americans are notoriously short memoried and obsessed with 'bigger'. And then many make poor financial choices when market pressures swing the other way.

Back on track.

You might try driving some low mile 2nd gen 5 lugs equipped with the convenience package if you can find one. It will do everything you desire, and it is much more 'car like' in ride and handling. It's has totally different underpinnings than the 6 lug units.

I have 'upgraded' mine with the largest tire that will fit OE wheels with no vehicle modifications, added an OE backup cam/mirror and intermittent wipers, and it makes me smile everytime I need to use a truck.

 

My SR rides pretty dang good. In my opinion it rides better than my 2012 TRD OR SB did.

 

Having a SR5, but I understand it to be the same suspension and what not as the SR, I feel it rides A LOT better than the '12 OR I had also. I also feel the turning radius is A LOT better too. I absolutely love driving this truck.

 

My SR rides great, i mean its a 4wd truck and not a caddy but i have no complaints. All stock and im perfectly happy with the entire truck.

 

I test drove a Colorado and felt it a little better but was kinda meh everything else. I went back to the Toyota dealership and they let me test drive a few different Tacomas again. It was really helpful. I ended up getting a 2018 Tacoma SR DCSB I4 4x2!

In all honesty the ride doesn't seem as bad now, I think I am just getting use to it? I was planning on upgrading the suspension ASAP but I might go for a tonneau cover and racks instead. Really liking it so far. Yeah the gas is going to hurt coming from a Prius but I saved around 10k by getting a SR instead of an OR. Also, the utility of a truck is worth the cost hand over fist.

 

I went through the same iterations when I bought my 2017 SR DCSB 2.7L. I initially went in looking for a 4x4 as I assumed it would have a higher ride height, but when looking at the specs, found that the 2 wheel drive Tacoma's now have the same ride height as the 4x4 Tacoma's (except for the Pro I believe, which is 1" higher than all the others). I needed the ride height, but don't need 4x4, so I simply couldn't justify the extra expense for even the SR5, based on the deal I got on my SR. I had massive buyers remorse driving home from the dealership, because I was so giddy to be getting a new truck with BlueTooth, that I totally overlooked the fact that it was missing cruise control and intermittent wipers. After finding this site, I added those items for a couple hundred bucks and I'm now very happy with the truck.

We've taken a couple of road trips, and it rides pretty close to that of my wife's VW Jetta. I bought a set of Tacoma TRD Sport take-off's and really don't notice a difference from the stock tires. The truck is no speed demon, but it has plenty of pep for most conditions, and the 2.7L engine is really bullet-proof. I didn't feel the V-6 to be that exciting, so went for the base model and have zero regrets.

 

Stiffer suspensions are more manly.

 

70k on mine, and I feel the same way.

Upgrading to TRDOR shocks has been on my 'to-do list', but it hasn't really bothered me enough to search the parts section regularly.

I didn't mind it at first, but then my one pup was getting carsick all of the time. After that, I've become hyper aware of bumps while she is in the truck.

Luckily, she got significantly better after a road trip to Colorado. I'll still upgrade at some point, though ... just need to find the parts close enough to home.

 

When I’m in highways the truck feels stable due to The stiffness and I like that... I haven’t feel the off road shocks.. i don’t want to feel the truck all bouncy like an old crown vic hahaha but where I live there’s been 2 f@cking years of road work and its baaaaad... it shakes my entire body.... hahaha

 

Yep. The roads near me are awful as well. Highway ride is definitely bearable, which is where I spend most of my time. Luckily, the stretch of hwy I drive every day is brand new(for the most part).

Oh man no cruise control!!! I couldn't imagine that. The 2018's ALL have adaptive cruise control and it is swwwwwweeeeeet. Intermittent wipers would be nice but in Virginia it's usually really pooring or not raining at all it seems.
